Same as last year, we'll do the top 10 prospects. Vote for your top prospect and nominate who you want to see added to the poll list of options.

I will not be using HF's standards for prospects, rather I'll count players as prospects who haven't played a full year in the NHL and appear to not be a slam dunk for a roster spot next year.

My top 10

1. Adrian Kempe
2. Nick Shore
3. Derek Forbort
4. Michael Mersch
5. Jordan Weal
6. Alex Lintuniemi
7. Erik Cernak
8. Valentin Zykov
9. Nic Dowd
10. Alexander Dergachyov

Went with Shore since I'm not convinced that Kempe/Zykov have top-six potential. Add Brodzinski.

Hmm do you go most NHL ready, Shore, Weal, Forbort or do you go impact wise, with Kempe or Zykov?

Kempe
Zykov
Shore and Forbort are interchangeable @ 3 & 4 for me.
Weal

That's my top 5.

Hope you don't mind--I added Brodzinski and 'other'.

Going with Kempe. Glad to see Zykov back in the board's collective good graces though.

Other players to consider--

Bartosak
Spencer Watson
Auger
Mistele
Amadio
Ebert
Leslie
LaDue
Austin Wagner
Dergachev

Mersch would be much higher in my mid-season rankings as well. Killer second half to this past season.

Right. The question will be what player is he going into next year? Because I doubt he's over a PPG player, too, though it's encouraging he was able to finish when put with other offensive talent.

how is shore still a prospect ? Is the question best prospect or most nhl ready I honestly would like to define this before we get to far into the process it affects the picks

Good question, and I'll add to the OP in further posts. We may as well abide by HF's criteria:

If a prospect is a skater (forward, defenseman) and has played in 65 NHL games or more before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday; or, if a goaltender has played in 45 NHL games before the completion of the season of his 24th birthday, that player will be considered graduated to the NHL. Conversely, if a player completes the season of his 24th birthday without passing those milestones, then that player will no longer be considered a prospect by Hockey’s Future, regardless of the player’s status with his NHL club.

There's more on euro prospects and NCAA and such, but that's the gist.

For me, it's who is gonna be the best (and has a pretty good shot to get to his upside), now whether that's who has the highest upside with reasonable chance of getting their or just highest upside is up to the individual.

That's why I went with Kempe.

No need to add to the OP.

Last year I did this poll and I copy/pasted over what I wrote last year in the OP here.

Shore hasn't played a full NHL season and he is not a slam dunk to make the NHL. He is therefore a prospect via the criteria above.

We already have a prospect list using HF criteria, it can be found on this site someplace. I'd post the link but for some reason on a site dedicated to the future of hockey you have to go hunting to find a teams top 20 list.

It's best prospect. Period. How you define what the best prospect is (best in the future or best now) is your call. Everyone has different criteria for what is the best prospect, pick whomever best meets your own criteria.
