Those expecting a lot of info the day after while the playoffs are just getting ready to start are really expecting way too much.

They did what they had to do not what we might have liked them to do.

Not surprised at all regarding the lack of detail. They will need to hire a coach first before they discuss philosophy. There is going to have to be some give and take with the coach to get the roster prepared.

Said it in the other thread, but kind of pathetic Luc has to read prepared remarks about Sutter and Lombardi. He should be able to speak off the cuff about those two.

He is not the most articulate person. I am not sure if it is his accent, but he sounds really dumb when he speaks.

In the heat of the moment you sometimes say things you probably shouldn't. Reading prepared remarks prevents that. And where they fired them they don't want to run the bus over them.

Luc and Rob looked like deer in the headlights at this presser. Not a good first impression, imo.

Somehow I'm guessing there was nothing they could do, say, or look like that would've gotten them off on the right foot.

It sure did. With some comedy mixed in, Dan calling Flake "loyal" now that's very funny and not true at all.

Apparently being drafted by the Kings and being HHOF players make them qualified for these positions.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2016 - GM Jim Rutherford, former NHL player and played for the Penguins. Didn't see anything regarding formal education at a university.

Chicago Blackhawks 2010, 2013, 2015 - GM Stan Bowman, Bowman graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1995 with degrees in Finance and Computer Applications

Los Angeles Kings 2012, 2014 - GM Dean Lombardi, During his college freshman year he played hockey at Division 2 power Elmira College, before transferring to the University of New Haven, where he was selected the scholar/athlete his senior year, and served as captain his junior and senior years. Lombardi graduated third in his class. Lombardi later attended law school at Tulane University, graduating with honors and specializing in labor law.

Boston Bruins 2011 - GM Pete Chiarelli, Played for Harvard University between 1983 and 1987, serving as the captain of the team. He later played for the British Hockey League Nottingham Panthers.

Pittsburgh Penguins 2009 - GM Ray Shero, Played his college hockey for the St. Lawrence University Skating Saints, captaining the team from 1983–85. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 1982, but never played in the NHL.

Detroit Red Wings 2008 - GM Ken Holland, Drafted in the 12th round, 188th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1975 NHL Entry Draft. He played a total of four games in the NHL. After his playing career was over, Holland took a job with the Red Wings as a scout in Western Canada. He subsequently served seven years as Director of Amateur Scouting and three as Assistant General Manager. That's 10 years of paying dues.

So, you get the idea.

Rob Blake was selected 70th overall in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. He had completed his freshman year with Bowling Green State University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) when he was drafted and went on to play three years total in the college ranks, earning CCHA and NCAA West First All-Star Team honours in 1990. Blake was also the first player to ever receive the CCHA Best Offensive Defenseman award. Foregoing his final season of college eligibility, Blake joined the Kings for the final four games of the 1989–90 season before tallying 46 points in his NHL rookie campaign in 1990–91 to be named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.

You guys can read these and see how they compare.

You're probably right. Looking forward to hearing what they have to say over the next few weeks.

A day after the Kings fire their coach and GM, what do you expect them to say.

"Eh, yes John, we are going to buy out Gabby and trade Muzzin."

Crap situation.

The hiring of the coach will be the first indication of anything with Blake's and Luc's direction for the team.

Outside of saying BigKing's season seats next season will be comped, you are correct.

To be fair though, I don't really care what they have to say. Oh, winning Cups is the goal? It is for the other 29 teams as well.

This was just a formality presser. They can say whatever the hell they want as only their actions will matter. Blake will be digging himself out of a hole with me since I am still judging him by his previous actions as what he says doesn't mean a thing.

Now, I'd really like to hear what Lombardi and Sutter think. As far as listening to someone talk about the situation, those are kind of the only two I care about. Everything from the Kings will be usual corporate PR stuff.

Although it is uncertain, I am glad to hear that Blake wants Futa involved and will "lean heavily on him." I just don't feel comfortable with a rookie GM taking over, without proper counsel by his side. I know Futa does not have a GM background, but he has significant scouting experience and helped DL a lot in getting this team to the cup.

Also, the one good thing about having Blake is that he was by DL's side for the past 4 years or so. As such, he has likely been privy to prior attempts DL has made to move Gaborik and Brown, and seen whether there is even a slight possibility of this deal going through, and the degree of ridiculous over payment required to get them off the books.

If Blake can get rid of either Brown or Gaborik he will already be good in my book and accomplished a whole lot. I know its crazy, but I feel like a deal can be made. I recall rumors during the summer Richards got busted for drugs that Edmonton or Calgary were interested in trading for Richards, but DL squashed the deal or potential deal by disclosing the drug bust. Anything is possible.

It's safe to say Blake and Futa are the most sought after of the current Kings staff.

why would anyone want Blake though? I saw somewhere else that Blake was being 'sought after' by other teams which could have possibly played a part in him being promoted and Lombardi being axed, but what for? my apologies of Im being ignorant but I really fail to see what qualities he has that would encourage other orgs to swoop him up. what does he bring to the table?

I certainly hope not. This is the same dumbass logic many use on this site in which you have to make a trade so your rival doesn't get that very player.

Worked with the league, business saavy, good connections, college education, good player/knows the game. A lot of assumptions but his background wasn't too different from Shanahan who was well-sought-after too. Or Hexy.

I think a lot of the venom is the name "Blake." An additional portion is the AEG Old Boys Club connection. But theoretically, he's well-qualified as an entry-level GM.

Blake is very highly thought of around the league, especially as a person. The only people who don't like him are a portion of Kings fans.
