When Lewis is always top 20 in the NHL in hits you know there's something wrong about that stat. I'm almost positive Staples Centers scorers give the Kings more hits and shots than they actually take. Or at least give the Kings more than they give their opponents.
On the contrary actually. I swear Kings statistician is asleep half the games. Having been in a lot of fantasy leagues we had one where stats bias was taken into consideration. LA nearly no matter what you do won't give you a TkA while handing out GvA like no other. The difference from home-away game is absurd. Over twice the bias of the next team in the league and astronomically over the the median. Come hits we are more in the middle. If looking for a team that hands out hits like nothing watch MIN/NYR and check out their stat lines afterwards for hits.

Every year we complain about the same problem, that lack of scoring. It's getting old. I think it's time to make some changes up front. Call up Mersch, Brodzinski, and maybe Kempe.

They have to do something. It's so bad that I'm actually glad Nolan is on the ice cause he's the team's best scoring chance after Carter which is just sad.

Our 'big guns' like Kopitar, Gaborik, and Brown have a combined total of 8 goals.

What a black hole of a line they were last night (other than the attempt by Kopitar back door).

We need to get back to playing simple, hard nose Kings hockey. Have faith in the system.

We've def. lost that along the way, but perhaps we just aren't the same team that can play that same game?

Then that falls squarely on Lombardi for not seeing this pattern last year. He and Sutter want that type of player who will to grind it out rather than score, and our roster shows it.

Usually the complaints have been about the bottom of the roster. Nobody from Ontario is going to heal Kopitar's wrist.

They are playing simple hockey. Nobody is doing anything crazy out there. They're not runnin' and gunnin'. They're giving up the fewest shots in the league. They're just not executing the simple plays. It looks like the worst thing to happen to Doughty was actually winning the Norris, and I don't know what happened to Muzzin. Like you said, you can't spend $21m on a line, and get 8 goals(only 4 at 5v5) out of the players on it through 36 games.

Would love to see some new blood, think Mersch should get called up. But the lack of scoring is tied to Lombardi and Sutter and their archaic thinking. Big heavy game, grinders and such. That won't change until they do . DL made a critical error is giving Sutter 2 more years. Carter plays outside the system, alot of the time coming over the blueline. He looks the same as he did when he was a young pup in Philly.

Hopefully, some part of DL is watching alot of other games and seeing how the winds of change would help his team for the future. And to me, this team has not looked 'interested' for far too many games over the last 2 and half seasons. Sutter lost them a long time ago.

ON the other hand, I'm watching Canada vs US in the WJC and seeing all that North American talent skating, shooting, creating, and for the sheer pleasure of it. The excitement that overflows from every player, just a joy to watch.
US up 2-0 after one. GO Red, white and blue..

It's a lot easier to teach to 6 skilled forwards to play defense than it is to teach grinders to score goals. I hope Lombardi starts to draft scorers, this organization has enough two way grinders.

Next Head coach is John Stevens, who believes hockey games are won the same way Sutter/Lombardi think.

Keep dreaming.

Also doesn't change the fact, that a system change, would require players change. Too many long term contracts, Draft picks take two- four years to develop.

Maybe , maybe not. Stevens has been patient, but sooner or later, he might interview for head coach elsewhere. And even if he stays, I can't see him keeping an old system that doesn't work anymore in today's NHL. He had a different system in Philly, so it's not to say he wouldn't adjust the system. I can't see him staying with this one. He's a smart guy, he has eyes and can see the evolution. I always like him and he got fired way too soon in Philly. I think if he replaces Sutter, he'd put his own system in place and it wouldn't be this one. He'd keep what works and implement positive changes.

And making changes in the system wouldn't require the roster to change, any team who names a new coach, doesn't flip a roster. If you are a skilled player, with the right tools, you can adapt. There are players here, esp on the bottom 6, that should go, whether thru trade or no new contract, regardless of who the coach is. And that is on DL to 'see' that over the summer. If he continues to believe that keeping the 'guys that got us there in 2012' the Nolans, Cliffords, Lewis, King, etc, he deserves his fate.
