Monday, July 7 begins Kings Development Camp:

http://lakingsinsider.com/2014/07/03/development-camp-begins-next-week/

The Los Angeles Kings will hold their annual Development Camp at Toyota Sports Center next-week, with on-ice workouts beginning on Monday, July 7. This will be your first opportunity to see the newest Kings prospects in person, including 2014 first round draft pick Adrian Kempe. Because this is Development Camp, and not Rookie Camp or Training Camp, the Kings’ college-based prospects are able to attend without losing their amateur status.

Defensemen:
STEPHEN HARPER: Belleville (OHL) / Camp Invite
ZAC LESLIE: Guelph (OHL): 6th round (178th overall), 2013
ALEX LINTUNIEMI: Ottawa (OHL) / 2nd round (60th overall), 2014
ROLAND MCKEOWN: Kingston (OHL) / 2nd round (50th overall), 2014
JACOB MIDDLETON: Ottawa (OHL) / 7th round (210th overall), 2014
KENNEY MORRISON: Western Michigan (NCHC) / Camp Invite
DARREN RADDYSH: Erie (OHL) / Camp Invite
KEVIN RAINE: Sudbury (OHL) / Camp Invite

Forwards:
MICHAEL AMADIO: North Bay (OHL) / 3rd round (90th overall), 2014
JUSTIN AUGER: Guelph (OHL) / 4th round (103rd overall), 2013
JOHNNY BRODZINSKI: St. Cloud State (NCHC) / 5th round (148th overall), 2013
TAYLOR BURKE: Gatineau (QMJHL) / Camp Invite
HOLDEN COOK: Owen Sound (OHL) / Camp Invite
ADRIAN KEMPE: MODO (SHL) / 1st round (29th overall), 2014
JOEL LOWRY: Cornell (ECAC) / 5th round (140th overall), 2011
JAKE MARCHMENT: Belleville (OHL) / 6th round (157th overall), 2014
CONOR MCGLYNN: Kingston (OHL) / Camp Invite
MATTHEW MISTELE: Plymouth (OHL) / 6th round (180th overall), 2014
PATRICK NEWELL: Indiana (USHL) / Camp Invite
SPENCER WATSON: Kingston (OHL) / 7th round (209th overall), 2014
VALENTIN ZYKOV: Baie Comeau (QMJHL) / 2nd round (37th overall), 2013

Goalies
PATRIK BARTOSAK: Red Deer (WHL) / 5th round (146th overall), 2013
JORDON COOKE: Kelowna (WHL) / Camp Invite
ALEC DILLON: Victoria (BCHL) / 5th round (150th overall), 2014
-Players are listed alphabetically by position; jersey numbers are not available at this time

Several observations of the camp invites:

-Stephen Harper is a converted defenseman who was previously a first round pick by Erie in the OHL priority selection and put up 24 goals and 35 points as a 16-year-old rookie in 2011-12. He also has the same name as the Canadian Prime Minister, so good luck Googling him.

-Taylor Burke has captained Gatineau in each of the last two seasons; considering he’s eligible to return to the Olympiques for his overage season, it’s not a stretch to expect that he’ll become a three-time captain this coming year.

-Another captain: Kevin Raine. Raine played out his OHL eligibility as Sudbury’s overage captain this past year before joining AHL-Portland for five games and recording one assist.

-Holden Cook had some of the more impressive stats of the camp invites, having more than doubled his 2012-13 point total with 28 goals and 57 points with Owen Sound last year. He’s listed at 6’1, 190 pounds by Elite Prospects.

-Patrick Newell played for the now-dormant Indiana Ice team that won the most recent USHL Championship. He’ll spend the upcoming year with the USHL’s Tri-City Storm before heading to St. Cloud State in the fall of 2015.

-With Newell reinforcing the St. Cloud pipeline (as an invite), the Kings are beginning to build a new pipeline in the province of Ontario. Defenseman Roland McKeown and forward Spencer Watson were drafted out of Kingston, so Conor McGlynn, a 6’2, 200-pound center who posted 12 goals and 20 points, will become the third Frontenac at this year’s camp.

-Jordon Cooke used to kill us while I was in Everett (and probably continued to do so after I left). The undersized goaltender who ran out of eligibility following a successful four-year run with Kelowna (where Kings Goaltender Development Kim Dillabaugh serves as an assistant coach), Cooke was 39-7-0-4 with a 2.28 goals-against average and .922 save percentage for a Rockets team that advanced as far as the 2014 Western Conference Final. His 2.28 GAA ranked second best amongst qualifying WHL goaltenders.

I don't see 4th round pick defensemen Steven Johnson on the list. Wonder why he is not attending?

Likely his committment to the NCAA. Means he would have to pay his way there. That, or he's taking summer classes, something many hockey players do. Both are common reasons for players missing.

Stephen Harper's conversion to defense is impressive because the Belleville Bulls play on an Olympic-size rink so he's not a slouch when it comes to mobility and being able to play the position with competency.

Next thing you know he'll be traded to Buffalo without ever havong stepped on TSC ice.

Geez, a third of the guys are invites. I'm most looking forward to Spencer Watson, Roland McKeown and Michael Mersch next week.

what time is all this crap going down?

 Not sure what time this morning. I think it is roughly slated for 8:30-11:30 for the morning part, but I am not sure when the first group gets on the ice. Maybe last year's Development Camp thread will give us an idea.

Who is going? We need reports.

From the Mayor's article about camp was this:

As for the schedule, there are usually separate groups for the forwards, defensemen and goalies running from about 8:30-11:30am daily. Then, a full session with all prospects typically follows later in the afternoon, around 3:15pm. Expect the official schedule to be released in a few days.

This is going to suck without Kings Pawn.

Hopefully John Rosen, someone here, or someone from LGK fills the void

Did anyone go today? Any reports at all? About an hour and a half drive for me without traffic, but I am interested in attending this week if some kind of official schedule is posted.

Nothing even on LA Kings Insider...Mayor's or anywhere. If I didn't see the few blips on LGK's, you wouldn't know there actually was camp today. I am 1,050 miles away
and lost all my employees and running my biz alone...my excuse.

There's no media reports because media isn't invited to attend until this afternoon's session. Officially, the rest of the camp is closed to the public and the media. Lombardi likes to keep development camp under wraps as much as possible. That's why you won't see the actual schedule posted anywhere. We haven't been told.

I have been thinking of the challenges you are going through with your business and I send best wishes your way.

Im totally willing to go..

if any sort of semblance of a schedule gets released.

i hear different things.

Today there were guys out at 8. Another group was out from 9:30-10:40. Basically, I think there are a few sessions in the morning. I don't know the afternoon schedule, but I believe Media Day is tomorrow. I will look for confirmation.

I went to the Mon morning sessions, so I only got to see a few of the drills. Few observations

Kempe- had good wheels, smooth skater, worked along the boards pretty well
McKeown- was just like the scouting reports in my eyes, good but nothing seemed to stand out about anything else.
Lintuniemi- very smooth skater
Zykov- just seemed to be at home playing against the boards behind the goal line
Brodzinski- also looked very good behind the goal line on the cycle.
Auger- still looks awkward out there at times
Newell- looked so tiny out there like he was 5 years younger than the rest.

Just a few things I saw, couldn't stay for the group session because my buddy had to get to the Angels game.

Thanks, DocGonzo! Much appreciated.

Found this:

Media Availability for Development Camp has been set for Tuesday afternoon, July 8, following a scheduled 3:15-5 p.m. on-ice session.

So we know there are sessions all morning long and at least one in the afternoon. Worth going, I'd imagine.

FrozenRoyalty is great for camp video interviews. I'd check there tonight.

ETA: We know that prospects are going to develop over several years and thus will change a lot, but it's nice to get an introduction to new members of the Kings family and exciting to see how previous years' draft picks have progressed and taken their coaches' instruction to heart. Zykov and Brodzinski, for example.

Agree with most of this. Caught most of Monday's sessions.

Will add that McKeown looked very sure with the puck to me. Also, Cooke (the goalie) seemed off, fell down a couple times in drills. Maybe just nerves. Didn't see McGlynn.

I also took a few photos. You can see the rest here. Here's Adrian Kempe!
