Speculation: Kings at the draft/off season

Would love to see the list of teams that has both 6 million in cap AND their 1st and 3rd.

At a quick glance it looks like Bedard-chasers.

I suspect Kings would match any others.
1- If you don't think Carolina wouldn't do it you might want to have a chat with Montreal.

2- Can LA match?
If somebody came in with a 6 mil offer it would give you guys roughly 2.7 mil to get 4 players just to have a 21 man roster. The minimum salary in the NHL is 700K. The math doesn't exactly add up there(4 players at 700K each is 2.8 mil, and if you want a full 23 man roster you're talking a minimum of 4.2 mil).

LA is probably going to have to shed some salary for his contract anyway unless he bridges at a discount like Anderson did, odds are a forward is on the outs. I don't think the difference between an offer sheet and what we'd be offering anyway is paralyzing.

If I'm looking at the Kings for next year the roster locks should be:

Kopitar, Kempe, Danault, Fiala, Vilardi, Byfield, Kaliyev, Moore, Kupari, Anderson, Doughty, Roy

Open for business: Arvidsson, Iafallo, Durzi, Walker

Willing to move but highly unlikely due to low value: Lizotte, JAD, Grundstrum, MacEwen

Negative Value: Petersen

UFAs to resign: Gavrikov and Korpisalo

Kempe--Kopitar--Vilardi
Moore--Danault--Kaliyev
Fiala--Byfield--XXX
XXX--Kupari--XXX

Anderson--Doughty
XXX/Gavrikov--Clarke/Spence
XXX/Bjornfot--Roy/Durzi

Korpisalo/XXX
Petersen/Copley

XXX = UFA or Trade

Fiala - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
Kalyev - Byfield - Vilardi
JAD - Lizzote - Kupari
Grundstrom - McEwan
Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Roy
Bjornfot - Spence/Clarke
Korpisalo
Copley

Use Walker, Durzi, Iafallo and Lias Andersson to get rid of Petersen, get some though prospects ready to play in the AHL and get some picks.

Carolina offer-sheeted Kotkaniemi because the Canadiens did the same for Aho, which Carolina promptly matched. Unfortunately, we've got the moron who sent the original Aho offer sheet in the first place. With our luck, Bergevin will get Blake to offer sheet a guy like Timo Meier, lose, then get caught with our pants around our ankles once it's time for Byfield or Clarke to be re-signed.

While we're at it though, there are a lot of RFAs coming up this summer: 2023 NHL Free Agents - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Weird to see that 2019 draft class needing new contracts.

No one is going to be willing to take on Petersen's contract by way of Iafallo, Durzi, Walker, or Andersson. We're likely looking at Petersen and a first for future considerations if we want to move on from Cal. I think our best bet is just to try to move Iafallo, Durzi, and/or Walker on their own for the cap space they provide.

We're project to have $8 million in cap space (with Cal in Ontario) with Korpisalo, Gavrikov, and Vilardi to re-sign. Moving Walker and Iafallo gives us enough space to re-sign all three, I'd imagine.

Not saying that this will happen but a package of Durzi, Iafallo and Cal to Chicago for their 3rd LHD prospect makes sense.

Nobody is taking Cal for those pieces. We’re either going to have to pay (something nice) to dump him or ride him in the AHL for one more year to buy him out.

There is no problem with keeping Cal in the AHL.
Copley has one more season after this one and Cal's buyout at this point will be cheap or he amps up his game and comes back as backup goalie
