I don't see the big deal, you're not losing out for a 5th rounder. He's taking low risk players and hoping they pan out.

Give back Montreal's high fourth round pick it the Kings make the playoffs, something Mitchell probably wouldn't be a big contributor towards.

Still meh for me...don't like it after finding out about the playoff condition but nothing to lose sleep over. Funny that this is okay for Blake but it's dumpster diving for some on here when DL did it.

I wouldn't call this move "Dumpster Diving". Torrey Mitchell is a very good and versatile 4th/3rd liner. Jokinen on the other hand... eh but he's been alright with us so far. I'll take Jokinen/Mitchell over Dowd/Laich/Andreoff anyday.

It's not an individual condition, it's a collective condition. Maybe Blake is just realistic? Or, maybe he can get back some mid round pick at the deadline should the opportunity arise. More likely that Mitchell does more in his limited time with the team that either an unknown 4th or 5th round pick ever do.

The real issue is using the term dumpster dive to begin with. If you're a GM, and you're not in a position to do something bigger, but you want to do something, especially in a cap world, minor trades trying to fill a specific area of need are what you can do. It's a bad phrase. Even in real life. If you're hungry, you have to eat, because nobody else cares about your problems. Who is going to hand Blake a scoring winger? We all complain about Muzzin on a daily basis. Why would another GM want him for a guy that can score goals? Maybe Brown, Iafallo, and Pearson could score more often themselves.

Also looking at Rob Blake's moves so far it looks like he goes after former teammates.

Torrey Mitchell (2009-10 San Jose Sharks)
Michael Cammalleri (2006-08 LA Kings)

I'm 95% sure Alexander Frolov will be a King by the end of the season.
