seravalli is pretty good at what he's trying to do - generate clicks and have his name mentioned more. it's a smart move in that sense to spew nonsense about a new canucks acquisition lol

someone must have told him every time someone repeats something he said it'll reverse one of his grey hairs

if you assume sevarelli hates the canucks and hates the pens and needs clicks, then this all makes sense.

i do wonder though if the pundits who cover the entire nhl are getting justifiably sick of the canucks sucking all the oxygen out of the league with the constant drama and trade rumours. it's been non-stop for over two season now that the canucks have multiple threads going in the main trade board. we've become what the leafs used to be and every fanbase knows our dramas and has opinions about our players, and is familiar with certain main board posters who to them personify the canucks fanbase.

So, Soucy for a 10m dollar top centre?
OK...let's do it!

Seriously though, Soucy stlll has positive value and could be part of a package.
There are a few options but all have problems.
1. Sign a UFA. Problem is there aren't many top 6 centers out there this summer. Do they settle for a winger? Not ideal.
2. Trade for a distressed asset that has term for relatively cheap. Possibility to get a top 6 center but very difficult to do. Odds are low that the distressed asset will meet the need.
3. Classic hockey value for hockey value trade. This has the highest probability of success. It will cost a lot. Likely means moving EP out but that kinda defeats the purpose. Possibly could work with a lesser but still good roster player (Boeser, Garland, DeBrusk) + a 1st + a prospect. In other words they'd be shipping out at least what they got for Miller.

Choose your poison. That's why GMs get paid the big bucks.

There are only 8 games until the deadline and we're in a 2-team playoff race 6 points clear of the 10th place team.

Unless we go 1-7 or something like that, we won't be selling.

That would be weird. Karlsson has been playing really well.
As recently as yesterday, the team was putting Soucy's name out there, but you're probably right about timing pre deadline...i didn't realize we only had 8 games left.

Barring someone blowing our doors off, I'd still be awfully hesitant to trade Kudryavtsev until he can be evaluated at the next level. His value as a trade chip went up by (easily) making the jump from the CHL to the AHL....if he makes the next jump that value goes up a lot more. throwing him into a deal as a sweetener for someone like Mittlestadt or Cozens would be vomit inducing.

Assuming we extend MP29, I'm not opposed to Kudryavtsev (or Mynio) being moved in the right deal, but you're not going to maximize the return until he's further de-risked. Look at the emergence of Pettersson. Not suggesting we should be looking to move EP25 (I've been higher on him than most), but trading him now would likely return a lot more than it would have a month ago, because he looks great at the NHL level.

It's pretty funny. You get so many posters complaining about him around here but this is the reason he does it in the first place. :rolly:

This interview was painful. I’m paraphrasing but it was basically:
“Canucks overpaid for MP”
“Oh yeah? So he was a bad addition?”
“He’s not bad, but there’s better fits”
“What would be better fits?”
“It’s not the fit, it’s that it happened quickly”
“Allvin probably talked to Pittsburgh before this though and didn’t just pull trigger instinctively no?”
“There’s 6 weeks until deadline, I’m just saying there’s better fits”
“What are those better fits then?”

Rinse. Cycle. Repeat. Terrible terrible insider and it’s shocking he gets the attention he does.

"Out on the town having the time of my life with a bunch of top pairing defencemen who are available on the trade market. They're all just out of frame, laughing too".

the trade for M.Petterson is not bad, but usually the team should be a strong contender for the cup when you give up a first round pick for immediate help.

The canucks is not a team contending for the cup this year, therefore its foolish to give up such asset.

By that logic, they shouldn't have traded for Hronek either. You're framing this as if Pettersson is a rental, but they're very clearly about to sign him to a long-term extension.

not if we plan to extend MP. You have to give up something to build a D. You just can't be like well we are not competing so we are just going to wait till UFA and pray we sign a guy and if that person signs then we are closer to contender status and then we can pay to add.

The mentality should be, always be adding.

One bad period? Is that what you think it is? Are you sure its not one bad calendar year?

Yea it must be the fans' fault, clearly that is what holding Hughes back, or Demko last year from being a Vezina candidate. I mean the fans didn't totally chant Petey's name in the playoff trying to encourage him, after he plays pretty bad for months.

Yea, Canadian fans just calls for player's head after "literally one bad period."

oh boy. way to exactly demonstrate the behaviour I'm talking about.

Like did you even read the rest of my post where I talked about his struggles? Or did you get triggered by that one sentence?

If players are anonymously saying they don't want to play in Canada because of the scrutiny, perhaps it's worthy of paying attention to. Pettersson isn't on an island here.

It's not like even highest performing athletes are immune to the pressure - getting the "yips" is a well known phonomenon. Simon Biles is the Michael Jordan of gymnastics, and she completely lost her head at the 2020 Olympics and had to take two years away from competition. Then she once again dominated at the 2024 Olympics.

Obviously Pettersson can't take 2 years away from the game. The only substitute might be playing in a lower pressure market. Which sucks, because we cannot replace him.
