I'd be interested in Gaborik. Still think he is on IR for LAK though, wonder if a package around Berube, Lee would work

LA should do that in a second if nothing else to get rid of Gaborik's contract. He was a shell of himself last season. And then inevitably got injured. Couldn't even make it to game 1 this season. Who knows if he even makes it to game 82 once he comes back. I'd trade Gaborik for a 2nd round pick alone at this point just to get rid of the contract.

Tavares, Nelson, Hamonic, Leddy, Halak for Kopitar, Doughty, Carter, Budaj, a 2nd and a 2025 7th

2 franchise players (Kopitar and Doughty), a 30 goal scorer and a 3rd stringer and picks

for

1 franchise player on the verge of becoming a UFA in 1 year, and some good to decent support players...

Kings should be all over this one....................:help:

Funny thing is it hurts the Isles even more. They don't have the depth to pull this off. Giving up their top 2 defensemen for Doughty leaves them with a huge hole on D. With Boychuk in decline, they would have a #1 in Doughty, a #4 in Boychuk, and some bottom pair guys. At least now they have a couple of #2D.

And giving up Nelson and Tavares for Kopitar leaves them short a forward. Nelson is right now the only forward other than Tavares actually scoring.

I read in 4th period (bad place for rumours i know ) and saw that DeHaan might be available Would King or Purcell be enough? or what would the price be?

He's a decent second pair d-man and the Isles have two d-men out. Doubtful that he's available but once they get healthy he could be made available for a scoring RW.

That's what i was figuring we need a upgrade on McNabb/forbert/gilbert (the 3 have all had top 6 time) We have purcell who was a decent scorer when in tampa bay who could be moved. Also King has played limited mins on the right side with some success a few years ago (the season he scored 15 he played a little rw with kopitar)

Halak and a pick/prospect for Gaborik just makes too much sense. Isles are desperate for a scoring winger, Kings need a veteran goalie with playoff success. Cap hit almost equal. Next year, when Quick is back and the parade is over, the Kings can trade away Halak. In final year of his contract, he will have decent trade value. Kings would then have plenty of cap space for other moves.

You are right on both fronts. People think players should be perfect and rant and rave over every little mistake. If the Kings moved Muzzin it would cost us 6+ million to try to replace him. He is a solid #2 and signed so cheap for what he brings. Not to bring up he is the rock of our 2nd pairing and if our depth was better he would be top pair with Drew. Poor guy is so under appreciated by lots of King fans.

Perhaps that's a sign that you're actually over-appreciating him. I see the same justifications over and over, as though people are simply repeating talking points. What makes a "solid #2"? LA won two Cups with their last #2 and have only one playoff win with their current "solid #2." What makes one the "rock" of his pairing? Every year that Muzzin has been in the league, he's had worse defensive stats than his partner. It's his partners who have been his rocks, allowing him to play a risky, offensive game. It's perplexing the statements that many fans make without much of any substantiation, as though saying it makes it so. My theory is that some fans are just eager to elevate someone so that they can feel that their defense is two really good defensemen, not just one.

If any poor guy is under-appreciated by Kings fans, it's Martinez, as I mentioned earlier. No matter what he does--score game- and series-winning goals, lead the team in points, take the fewest penalties of defenders on the team or have some of the best defensive stats on the team--he's consistently pushed aside while fans hand the praise and honor to "poor" Muzzin, instead. I bet that, had I suggested trading Martinez to the Islanders, instead, not nearly as many people would've spoken up to defend him.

I just realized Gaborik is locked up long term. Feet on LI just got cold, To bring in another vet long-term is not prudent. see: Boychuk and Ladd contracts

$4.8M for 5 years (including this one) is a manageable number for the Isles. Especially with Grabovsky and Kulemin coming off after next year.

false, when kulemin and grabovski come off their salaries will have to be offered to tavares who is also UFA that year. gaborik is too old and injury prone for the isles to make a move for him.

Kulemin and Grabovski will clear $9M of cap space. Tavares' raise will be, at most, $4-5M. He's already at $5.5M.

Too much sense? Sure, for the Kings.

Gaborik is currently injured, no? And signed for +3 more years than Halak? Declining production? Injury prone?

Isles have enough of that.

Strome and Nelson also RFA that year and we're all hoping they earn a raise too. Gaborik would be pushing out one of the home grown kids.

Currently injured, should return in a few more weeks. Declining production? He was hurt last year, produced well the 3 years before that, and looked great in world cup this summer before breaking foot blocking a shot. No more injury prone than other NHL players at this time. Isles are desperate for his kind of talent on the wing. Worth the risk for them.

He was terrible for the Kings last year before he was injured. He had one good week that inflated his numbers. Before that, he was absolutely invisible to the point where I didn't even know if he played or not only to be shocked to see he played 14 minutes.

Come on, you can't seriously believe that... can you?

He's clearly had some injury issues, has lost a step, and is a shadow of his former self. His stats back up his declining production and you admit it's been several years since his last normal, productive, healthy season. With his contract and term...

The Islanders are not desperate for that.

Islanders can use a guy like Gaborik even if he does play only 41 games per year

but then again so would LA

however, Isles shouldn't touch that contract, it's ****

Isles would most likely look at either Carter, Pearson, or Toffoli

I'd actually be shocked if he made it through the entire rest of the season without an injury from the time he comes back until the end of the season. Call it bad luck, call it a glass body, call it whatever. The guy is one of the most injury prone guys in the NHL. Add on the fact that he has 4 years on his deal and I'd be surprised if Vegas took him next year. And that's for free. Like I said, I'll trade him to the Islanders for anything but a bad contract. Lee AND Berube?? Sign me.
