I consider myself a part of the pessimist crowd around here, but a lot of this is ridiculous. You pick apart the 2014 run but fail to mention the 2012 run, during which they steamrolled the entire league and set several records.

The Kings won two Cups between 2012-2014 because they were good enough to win two Cups. No reason to denigrate those years. Most contending teams ride a very thin line between failure and ultimate success. Very rarely do we see runs like the Kings in 2012 or the Hawks in 2013. And for the record, the Kings record from February 2012 through June 2012 is as good as it gets in the modern era.

Lombardi made some great moves. He also made some bad moves. I don’t understand why people think this is unique to Lombardi. Everyone sucks Yzerman’s cock and he hasn’t won **** with Tampa. Most Cup winning GMs are no longer with the teams they won championships with.

Hockey is a game of good timing. The Carter fiasco in Columbus. Chicago winning the lottery to jump up and draft Kane. Pittsburgh sucking at the perfect time to draft Crosby and Mallon back to back. Toronto finally putting together a good enough rebuild to lure a huge UFA. The list goes on.

Are any of us even hockey fans if Pocklington doesn’t go bankrupt and need to sell Gretzky?

Timing. Luck. Not unique to Lombardi. We deserved 2012-2014 as much as any other winning fanbase in hockey history.

To be fair to @KingsFan7824 , so many of his posts do a phenomenal job of satirizing a lot of the posts we see around here about trading players emotionlessly and about how slim the margins between victory and defeat are and were, including how DL's 'great' moves won cups but similar moves resulted in pain. I read the above post regarding 'mistake' as tongue-in-cheek as now we're back to mocking DL for moves that looked genius--or at least reasonable--at the time in context. I love these reads about the 'smart' move, they're clever, because I'm as blunt as a f***ing stump when I"m having these conversations, but KF7824 gets off the hook for saying similar things way more subtly

As I said in the other thread, better tell that to the other GMs who have been handing out big-dollar max-term deals to elite goalies as well...oh wait, too late.

It's almost as if the best players get locked down regardless of position. Even the young guys that could get bridged are getting 6+ year deals after proving even less. Why bother signing anyone?

It's different with a goalie because you're taking up cap for one Player who plays the most volatile position in the game. And if you're strapped to that goalie then you're f***ed.

I can stomach bridge deals for forwards and skaters because you can bury them down the line up if needed be, if your goalie starts to be a problem goalie then where are you gonna bury him? Goalies dip and raise in value more than other position in the game because they're always in a state of flux.

I have been pro retool more than rebuild knowing that Kopi, Doughty, and Quick aren’t going anywhere.

After last year’s finish and this year’s start, I’m just kinda over it. This team should be better but it has lost its mojo and I think it’s time to let go of the past.

I don’t think a change is coming soon, but this is likely the year they need to sell at the deadline. Carter, Muzzin, Clifford, and Pearson need to bring pack some picks and prospects.

*Hughes/Kaapo would be feckin nice
*whatever you get back in a trade

Kovy Kopi Brown
Iafallo Vilardi Toffoli
Kempe Kupari JAD
Wagner Amadio Lewis

Can't wait for the next lockout and the end of the guaranteed contract, or max contract length of 5 years. Imagine, players will have to earn their pay throughout the length of the entire deal.

I've been on board with that with you since the beginning. Or at least only a couple of years of guaranteed contract. Bring back options. Something. But I can't see the PA saving GMs from themselves either. Gonna be a doozy.

Sell off the assets that arent Brown, Quick, Doughty and Kopitar. Let's face it no one has the space or the desire for some of those. Keep the kids, i.e. Kempe, Amadio, Wagner and the prospects. Move everyone in between and do what you can to add Nylander and Krug to the team. They'd go a long way to fixing the Kings scoring woes.

Two obvious things are apparent with our KINGS;
1) Its still really early in the season but we look plain bad! The team has grown stale and its time for new blood along with a reality check from the FO..
2) The coaching staff ^^^

I wonder what we could get for Amart, Toffoli, Pearson, Muzzin and Carter... could we get ...
Amart for S.Reinhart
Pearson for P.Zacha
Carter for Jost/Timmins + 1st(Likely makes them a legit contender with JC as their 2C)
Toffoli+Muzzin+pick for W.Nylander(considering how much better those two make that team and how cheaply they're signed for)

Obvious, some of these are long shots but at this point we desperately need new blood..

Los Angeles Kings head coach John Stevens is on the hot seat but GM Rob Blake may prefer not to make that change just yet. Stevens said he’s not really worrying about it.

Teams are starting to call the Kings and are asking about Tanner Pearson (three years left at $3.75 million) and Tyler Toffoli (two years left at $4.6 million). Teams have brought up defenseman Alec Martinez and a league executive expects calls will be made about Jake Muzzin as well.

Alain Vigneault to Get the Call?
There are multiple reports that both coaches in Los Angeles and St. Louis might be on the hot seat and potential candidates to replace them vary. One name that came up is former New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault.

NHL Rumors: Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Maple Leafs, More

I don't think Martinez gets Reinhart but I would be all over that (as you said long shot). Does Buffalo need LHD now that that have Scandella, McCabe and Dahlin all on the left? I haven't watched very much Sabers so that is just based on Cap Friendly

I am bored so here are some players I would like LA to target for Carter

If Arizona wants to make a run for the playoffs:
Carter for Strome + Conditional 3 rd (becomes 2nd if Arizona makes western Finals, and first if Stanley Cup final - UNLIKELY)

If Carolina wants to go for
Carter for Necas + Haydn Fluery

I think either of those would help the Kings re-tool on the fly. I think the Arizona one likely favours Arizona and the Carolina one favours LA too much.

My hope was that when Vilardi was ready that the Kings would trade Carter, shed some age, salary, and get some pick out of it. Sadly, glass boy might bust.

saw somewhere the other day: Kings talks with Mtl and Isles for Muzzin? Intersting...Brown activated and Amadio down. (should have been Wagner) and Sean Walker up and NO defenseman sent down...carrying Ladue and Fantenberg...just cannot carry 8 D and was wondering if there was truth to moving Muzzin or Marty could be imminent, thus still have 8 D. Oh wait, the Kings are out of their slump! lol. It sucks that Ladue played an awesome game and then sits again. That game, he was 25% better than any of Forbort's games.

What could Muzzin get from the Isles or Canadiens?

I wouldn't be surprised one bit of LaDue is traded. He had two seasons to be a regular in the lineup (like Forbort), and hasn't take a position partly because Stevens doesn't play him often, and partly because of his play (although he has offensive upside). Plus, right handed shots are valued in the NHL, so we might get something in return perhaps if in a package (e.g., Pearson + LaDue).

he only got to play 12 games with LA last yr...22 the year before, but he needed more seasoning in the AHL...compare to Gravel, who got 60 games. Ladue is #1 on LA D this year, for goals against 5 on 5.
His trade value is low right now. He is worth more than whatever anyone would offer. He should be playing over: Walker and Forbort right now.

Or hes just not that good.

It’s too soon to tell, obviously, but Vilardi has major and consistent injury issues, and he’s been playing against kids his whole career.

That’s not a good sign for his viability in the NHL.

Speaking of Gabe "The Boneless" Vilardi, have they taken the bubble wrap off him yet

Or hes just not that good.

He;s JUST good enough, to have teams want for more, that's the problem, he's a good 7th dman, some teams 6th, etc, he just has to find the right situation to be in, not sure if LA is it, unless they decide to deal Martinez AND Muzzin, and then he has to worry about Brickley, Clague, and others etc.
