KHL Rosters this season. 3 nations went down and 2 nations went up.

Nope, that was just a theoretical discussion, and about football, too, not hockey. Hockey, the KHL and current players in it aren't mentioned anywhere in that debate by Hašek. (They were chatting about possible deterrent measures on Twitter, that's all.)

I just tracked the tweet down.
The entire conversation starts with Hasek referencing Jaskin playing in the KHL. He directly talks about him, and how the government needs to ennact laws to prevent people from working in Russia. He then, in a later tweet in the thread, says that the government should jail people working in Russia for 15 years.
This obviously includes KHL players, considering he brought up the entire conversation based on Jaskin.

This is the initial tweet:

If you're not gonna be honest, I see no reason to continue.

This hasn't been mentioned much. And this is NOT an opportunity to discuss past wars and show us all your degrees in European and World history.

Here is last season:

Key numbers: Czechs had 20, Finn's had 47 and Swedes had 38 players

Here is this season:

View attachment 587963

Key numbers: Czechs went from 20 to 4 (and those 4 are temporarily banned from NT), Finn's went from 47 to 1 (that player is also banned) and Swedes went from 38 to 6 (and those guys are banned too).

Collectively... Czechs, Finn's and Swedes went from 105 players to 11 and banned those 11.

At the same time: Slovaks went from 9 to 8 and did not ban any players.

Canada went UP - 42 to 47
US went UP - 11 to 13

Collectively, US and Canada went from 53 players to 60.

None of those players are banned from any national teams this season.

Latvians went from 27 to 2.
No Danes, Estonians or Lithuanians (maybe they aged out?)

Michal Handzus resigned from his position in Slovakia in protest to them not banning their NT guys. Their sponsor and ministry were also quite upset about the decision.

I think it shows a big difference in menality between the North American and Euro nations regarding Ukraine. A lot of Finns, Czechs and Swedes took a paycut to play in different leagues this season. I'm disappointed that North American participation increased in the KHL while Euro participation declined significantly.
I had no idea the KHL attendance was that bad....

I know that's covid effect but it was only around 6k pre-covid which is pretty brutal...

Does anyone know what a ticket goes for.

To be fair it was heavily affected by covid restrictions on capacity last season

Pretty crappy by what standards? The only European leagues reaching 6k pre-covid are the KHL, SHL and NL

Precovid

Yeah sorry, forgot the German league. The Swedish league has been around 6000 depending on which teams are in the top division.
Personally, I was surprised by that order and the numbers.

Eg. I would've thought KHL is near 10,000 (I obviously wasn't even close in that)
Liiga would have more than Liga
No idea DEL did that well

Hasek the lunatic is at it again.

Best reply: How dare they not discriminate on your behalf. Please shut up, Dominik.

You can say about their morals what you will but one thing is certain: You got to have balls of steal to play in Russia as an US citizen at this point. The guys from the spittin chiclets podcast are probably already rubbing their hands in anticipation of new content...

I wouldn't set a foot into Russia in any point of time so I can't disagree with you there. Not that I think its not a beautiful country but I heard some crazy things from people who actually went there that I would like to avoid at any cost.

Spittin chiclets contains a lot of sensationalism though.

Not that guests aren't telling their truth, but pro players tend not to be the most worldly individuals. Many exist in a hockey bubble.
I suspect many are less capable of adapting to changes in non-hockey life. A small weird cultural difference is a huge one.

It’s the same with the Russians in North America. Not the most educated bunch, and you hear similar horror tales; especially about smaller AHL cities.

Shit, Dmitri Zavgorodny just told the media a story about having to barricade in the lockeroom because there was a gunfight outside the arena of Calgary’s AHL affiliate.

Fair enough. My original post was mainly in regard of the crazy situation because of the war. I mean we all heard about the WNBA player that is basically held hostage by Putin at the moment. On top of that you have to play in a country that has been hit with economic sanctions wich will affect you as well and where a large part of the population apparently looks at your home country as evil. And that comes in addition to the usual KHL pitfalls like the language barrier, lack of job security, hotel life, travel time etc. That is just not a situation everybody can handle. I just mentioned the podcast because they love to cover the juicy "russian stories". But I am not uncritical of that. North American hockey culture has plenty albeit different issues itself, wich we can witness on an regular basis on the news right now, unfortunately.
