It's also an issue of where they are. There might be no point of building big arenas in places like Cherepovets, Podolsk or Nizhnekamsk

Well yeah, they are going to be evicted out of the league sooner or later, but i was not talking about those teams.

And Astana and Moscow and Donetksk too,i know im just saying situation right now is pretty bad.

1) Astana -12 000 under const.

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1425994&page=3

2) Moscow: VTB 12500

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1110571

Legends Arena 12000, and a large CSKA comlex (15000-22000) to be built

3) Donetsk - Kalmius Arena 13000

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1590473&page=2

Although all of them they could have built 15000

Whats the deal with Admiral arena? It says 5500 capacity, but I read some sources that say it can be increased to 7500. So can it? Will they? What?

And what a surprise that most meaningless franchises have the worst attendances. Except of course Donbass, their Arena is limiting them, and they are building new one too.

Medvescak are doing great for a hockey team from Croatia

Pretty good overall, disappointed with Lev, Minsk(understandable) and of course Kazan(pathetic) though

They can add the 4th stand which is missing now.

IMHO, building 5000-7500 arena in a million city these days is a travesty...

Decent attendance for Jokerit. Next year when they join khl even if they get half that, it won't be THAT bad.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is a huge decrease for Minsk compared to last season, isn't it?

edit: uh oh

Average is the last row (4979, 70%).

It's worth notice that Finnish Liiga has a very stable market so the pricing has risen quite high for maximum profits (so only top team has 90%+ attendance). In KHL you can see a huge difference because most of the teams are still unsure of the proper pricing and some of the teams have outdated arenas.

Decent attendance for Jokerit. Next year when they join khl even if they get half that, it won't be THAT bad.

50% of that would be a disaster, a disgrase and the lowest in 25 years.

Here's Jokerit attendances during the 2000's (the team has had the top attendance since 1992 and the new arena made them even bigger in 1998):

2001: 10421
2002: 9662
2003: 9581
2004: 9093
2005: 9637
2006: 8850
2007: 8982
2008: 8591
2009: 8456
2010: 8295
2011: 8487
2012: 9173
2013: 9828
2014: 8731

This year's dip is partially because the lack of superstars (NHL lockout), partially because the weak(ish) team effort and partially because the fans are upset of the KHL move and signing of Jere Karalahti.

Considering the announced attendance doesn't match the actual attendance (season ticket holders/sponsor free tickets stayed home) even currently, at times there's been around 5-6000 and the atmosphere has been like in a funeral. It really would be a disasterous number at Hartwall Areena, occasionally referred to as The Church. It would turn into an actual one in noise level.

So the KHL is tied 3rd/4th in Europe in average attendance.

That's really, really bad, considering everything.

They should get rid of the bottom-tier Russian-based teams ASAP, if they're willing to grow as a league anytime soon.

Add 4-5 European teams (Jokerit + Sweden + Germany + Switzerland + maybe Denmark/Norway) and we'll have a decent league on our hands. 13-14 countries, 32 teams and an average attendance closer to 10k than 5k.

Get rid of the limit on foreigners and we'll have some actual competition going with North America.

Right now the KHL is just one of the European leagues, not THE European league.

Too bad everything written above is just a daydream, as the KHL management still considers KHL to be a Russian league first and foremost.
