Murray's downfall was he neglected the defense. I believe he would of got us there but unfortunately he had his way of doing things and didn't care what Pegula thought or said.

Following the Kings build when Darryl Sutter was roughly 90% of the reason of their success was certainly a choice.

Absolutely, Zito is a master at this, Fitzgerald is also doing well, some other GMs. Adams doesn't even try to do this. He had a free Fabbro in front of his nose, and in the summer Kovacevic for a mid pick, no reaction.

I literally cannot fathom. He’s a year away from breaking the NHL record for longest GM tenure for missing playoffs consecutively and it was by a start up expansion team. (Doug MacLean/Columbus)

He’s a loser who can’t get a better job, he deserves nothing for the bullshit he’s been slinging for the past umpteen years. Him and Dumlevy just happened to be standing closest to Terry when he was handing out those jobs.

The Master, he won the cup and built a very good team mostly by adding cheap guys. Of course there was Tkachuk, but he got too many players that were underrated by others. Everybody makes mistakes when they do something in their job, but in the end he succeeded. Our GM... has done almost nothing over the years that was needed.

There is nothing difficult about it, you can listen to him, think to yourself, what an idiot and do as you think is necessary. Ordinary politeness to the owner is not difficult to pretend, the main thing is what you do in the end.

It seems it should be as simple as that, but I don't believe for a second that every financial move Adams makes isn't rubber stamped by Terry first, or that Adams actually has the autonomy to make any team decision on his own without Terry greenlighting it. I do not care what Adams claims in press conferences. We know he tells stories to spin cheap decisions as something they are not.

Any GM of a team that has been losing for five years on his watch that is still cutting roster costs wherever he can is under ownership's imposed financial restraint.

And please do not say I am defending Adams with this post. That is not what this is about. Adams is a lying puppet who never has made decisions on his own. He GMs through committee, and everyone in the front office has a say on decisions, but I believe Terry signs off on decisions as president and he greatly influences way more of the team decisions than some people around here will admit.

I don't believe that Terry influences every decision and doesn't allow Adams to do anything. Yes, he can talk and advise him on what to do, make some decisions himself, but I think Adams also makes decisions on the roster. All these big contracts for players, inaction. I mean, I don't believe that Pegula stopped Adams from trading Jokiharju and adding Fabbro for example or Kovacevic, who plays for minimum money. I know Terry is a big problem, but I think Adams is a big problem too. If you can't get rid of one because he's the owner, then you get rid of the other one because he's a totally incompetent GM.

Of course, we can talk about money and savings, which may actually be true, but this also cannot be an excuse. Two teams with a cap of 69 and 70 million are in the playoff zone. Our cap is 82-83 million.

With the amount of time this team has had all that was needed was an average GM.

May be a case of too many cooks in the kitchen, and why not much seems to be decided.... None of them can agree

Maybe another GM is more decisive and would be able to persuade Terry and the others to make moves, but I think if you remove Adams, the thought process in that room likely remains extremely similar.

And money isn't an excuse, it is just evidence that things are not as Adams claims. This team has a lot of great pieces and should be a small retool from being very competitive, but the trades and money have to be spent wisely. The team has to be built to an identity that works with their system. Ruff is not a coach that is going to succeed with half the players on the current roster. This team is filled with player types that historically end up in Ruffs doghouse. A lot of coaches can succeed with the players here, but they are a different breed of coach.

The biggest hole that needs addressing though remains a #1 center and I think we both agree that EP40 would go a long ways to solving what is missing. Unfortunately, I do not believe Terry will sign off on adding a 11.6M dollar player, regardless of who the GM is, which remains a huge hurdle in this team evolving.

No, well, Karmanos, Forton and the rest are Adams' front office, he invited some of them himself, they may have different opinions, but they must work together. And Kevyn must listen to them and make a decision based on that. Terry is a different matter, he is the owner and his opinion will have to be taken into account whether you like it or not, I just think that even if he wants to speak out on any issue, this does not necessarily mean that he insists on what he said. In some moments, for sure, yes, where especially related to the financial issue, but I think Adams still has some freedom of action. As I already gave the example with the potential Jokiharju trade.

It depends on what the specific chef is responsible for and how involved he is in this process. Forton can mainly focus on the draft. Karmanos is Adams' right hand and Rochester GM. I don't even know what Jakubowski does there.

Well, it depends on what kind of GM you invite and what you want to achieve from him. Saving or making the playoffs. Sometimes you can combine these, but it's obviously harder.

Again, I'm not sure that Terry doesn't pay. Maybe I have a theory that he categorically doesn't want to pay for some specific things, but is ready for others. They signed Cozens, Power, other guys on big contracts, he pays his players and not a little. But he can be some kind of petty and not want to fire the current assistants and pay their salaries or does not want to pay a big bonus to a player who has lost his love for the game in Buffalo. But maybe he doesn't mind paying a player who comes to help his team (EP40).

1C would be huge for us, but I expect more, we lack several defensive RDs, I would also like to get a legit top 6 F, a proven guy, and not watch Peterka, Cozens, Quinn throw in the heat and cold, where they look good then terrible.
