This is 100% correct. It will be what happens, and why nobody will even consider working here (if the Sabres even bother reaching out).
And the team will gaslight everyone into thinking that nobody wants to work here, so they "had to" "hire" Karmanos and/or Jakubowski/Forton.

I hope that the next time Adams is at the podium he gets asked and his feet to the fire on whether or not he has done a good job. And by what metrics he would defend that with. Attendance will certainly be down this year as this continues. Public sentiment is about as angry as it has ever been. The team doesn't win any more games since before he got here.

After 5 years what are the successes he hangs his hat on?

It certainly sounds rude, and it kind of is, but it isn't a whole lot different than any of our own yearly reviews. We just aren't public facing sports people like the GM of an NHL team.

Adams will never get another GM job so you can bet those lips are puckered to those ass cheeks at all cost including dignity.

Will fix everything
Where are the other Zuckers of the last 5 years? Decent UFA who was willing to sign here for 1.5x-2x what he’s worth. And can then be traded for value at the TDL. What do we think Zucker is worth? Like a 2nd or 3rd rounder?

We’ve had ~60 million in cumulative cap space over the last 5 years. That’s ~12x Zuckers that we never signed. That’s 12x 2nd/3rd round picks we could have used as trade ammunition or picks we could have made. Heck, one of those 12 UFAs might have even been worth re-signing to a long term deal and wanted to stay.

Not spending that money to at least acquire trade assets is waving the white flag of surrender.

This is why I mentioned multiple times what a mistake the 'not blocking the kids' thing was. It was really just excusing a bottom of the barrel budget roster by effectively turning the Sabres into the Amerks in terms of development.

Typically when you have a bad team, you have a few young kids and surround them with vets who can step in a play a NHL ready system and slowly graduate the young players up as they learn the system in the AHL. Instead we threw them all in the NHL immediately and told them "just have fun out there" like we were a club team rather than a elite professional level team.

And it worked to a point. We had everything just click into place for 1 season and still missed the playoffs

Then it has devolved from there.

We've become a cautionary tale of why you don't try to run a team like small family business and why the structures and systems that have been developed over the last 50 years are used by almost every team. I think its fine to question why things are done like that, but to disregard them and just have a 'fake it till you make it' as your GM is just a terrible idea.

This is making my point for me, there are not a lot of options out there that want to come here, even for an overpay. Zucker said the top thing that brought him here (most likely aside from 5 Milly) was playing for Ruff.

Adams has brought in Staal, Hall, Eakin, Anderson, Lyubushkin, Clifton and Johnson... All at overpays.

No it's not. Adams brought those players in while leaving $60million on the table. We got ZERO returns for the $60m.

Those players were all bottom of the barrel, aside from Hall. Staal was a trade, not a UFA.

If Adams had added a reasonably priced, useful FA or two like Zucker every season the Sabres would have already seen the playoffs. Yes, the wasted available cap was a huge missed opportunity, but it's his inability to more regularly find winners like Zucker that's been Adams' bigger failure by far. The pro scouting staff too, obviously, which is ultimately on Adams as well.

His other off-season acquisitions tell the story. NAB and Laff (when healthy) have been meh, and Beck has been decent. I had hoped opposing d-men would dread playing against that 4th line, yet Krebs has easily been its most significant performer.

I don't think you can get any closer to the point without walking into it lol. We have extra cap space because nobody wants to come here, even for an overpay. The above players were all that he could get for a rebuilding team. Just because they have money doesn't mean they are not trying to spend it...

After a game like tonight people get fired.....I am starting to get nervous that Adams might actually get fired.

It will shake my belief that Adams kisses ass and his job is safe.

His tongue can be in Terry’s small intestine and he still should have been fire over a year ago.
I agree normally but I think Pegula is the GM. I think Adams is just the mouthpiece.

Thats why I don't think Adams gets fired.

So... you're saying it's the astronomically worse option that I posted 5 pages ago? Why didn't you just say so 5 pages ago, and save us all this back and forth?

See below:
Unless you're arguing that Adams is so incompetent, and that the Sabres are so toxic that they tried to spend this money, but were unable to find any takers? Which is an astronomically worse scenario than a self imposed cap.
