Baseless speculation about being closer to home. It's been reported that he made good movement with the Coyotes, but either the trade wasn't enough or an extension couldn't be agreed upon.

There's not much to backup the HF belief that Shattenkirk is NY or nothing.

First off it's none of HF beliefs that it's Shattenkirk to NY or nothing, Quite a few NHL insiders have stated this and tons of credible rumor sites have linked Shattenkirk to the east close to home as possible. I never said it was only the Rangers or nothing. I can see him either with the Rangers, Bruins, Devils maybe the Flyers.

None of them have actually been close to the situation and reported that he's only interested in areas close to his home. It has been reported with certainty that he made good progress with Arizona.

It's been a false HF narrative for just about a year now.

I only saw where he wouldn't agree to sign long term with Edmonton, For obvious reasons he didn't want to play there. Had heard that Arizona was after him but didn't see any credible links suggesting a deal was close. I just can't see Shatty being interested in a rebuilding team like Arizona they've good young talent just don't see him going there though.

Detroit to Saint Louis is (530 miles)

Detroit to Montreal is (575 miles)

So St Louis to Detroit is about 45 miles closer then Detroit to Montreal not enough to make Petry waive his NMC for St Louis though.

The Blues would have zero interest in Petry so it's really a moot point

You can think that all you want but the report was that he was open to Arizona. Considering he flat out said no to Edmonton, he wouldn't be shy to tell Arizona the same.

Elliotte Friedman just reported recently that they made good progress. During the summer, a West team was included in a list that Shattenkirk provided of teams that he'd sign with.

I'll play along for fun. I'd love to get James Van Reimsdyk from Toronto. Maybe there's a chance Toronto would want to rent Shattenkirk for the playoffs and unload JVR since he'll only have 1 more year left on his current deal? If we could swing that, I'd love it. But I'm negative on Doug Armstrong so I'm not expecting anything.

This makes zero sense because the leafs aren't making the playoffs unless a miracle occurs. Even if they do trading for help this playoffs should not even be considered. If however Shattenkirk is willing to sign an extension I would pay JVR but no more.

Part of my thinking was maybe the Leafs don't have any interest in resigning JVR when he becomes a free agent. So you think Toronto has every intention of resigning him? But yeah this is all predicated on the Leafs having a shot at the playoffs. It is a long shot but who knows, they are playing exciting hockey this year.

They would need to string together 8 wins in the next 10 games before even thinking about a playoff chance.

Would I be surprised if Shattenkirk came to New York? Not at all.

But that said, if I had a dollar for every time a player was "going home" and didn't...

This should be sticked in every Shattenkirk thread....

I wish he would come to Oil Country.. He would be a huge add, but he wants to play out east, which is fine

He was open to Arizona around the draft... I can understand hesitations about going to Edmonton before the season. With that said....why wouldn't anyone want to jump on the McJesus train now? If Arizona was a possibility, then winning now must not be a priority. Edmonton has everything he'd want career wise. A big paycheck, defensive stud guy to do the heavy dzone lifting and a forward group littered with elite guys.

Agreed. A lot of the teams in that area could use him, so it makes sense, but fans blow the location argument out of the water.

Armstrong is on the hot seat and Hitchcock is retiring after this yr.I think the Blues keep him for another run then he can run off to whatever team he wants.

Assuming the strongest suitors will be playoff bound teams, those teams will likely not be willing to trade important pieces off their current roster to acquire shattenkirk.

Given that the blues are likely a playoff bound team, it's unlikely St. Louis will trade shattenkirk unless current impact pieces on an NHL roster are coming back. So either St. Louis trades him for futures or a non playoff team trades impact players for a rental. I can't remember either scenario happening in history.
