I'll play along for fun. I'd love to get James Van Reimsdyk from Toronto. Maybe there's a chance Toronto would want to rent Shattenkirk for the playoffs and unload JVR since he'll only have 1 more year left on his current deal? If we could swing that, I'd love it. But I'm negative on Doug Armstrong so I'm not expecting anything.

Firstly, thanks for the interest in JVR. Unfortunately, there is no chance the Leafs aŕe playoff bound, so renting Shatty would prove to be a mistake.

Why you guys tease yourselves? Shattenkirk trade ship has sailed away. We should talk where he'll go when he hits UFA market and what kind of money and term he'll sign.

Its possible there is a trade percolating out there that has been kicked around for a long time, and will finally be triggered at the deadline. But I don't see the Blues trading Shattenkirk for futures when they are coming off a WCF appearance and feel that they're a contender to be back in the WCF.

A trade a year or two ago would have been more realistic. But Armstrong reportedly didn't find one that had the value back that he wanted, or that he felt improved the team. I don't get what's so hard about viewing keeping Shattenkirk for this season and playoffs as the same as a rental move by the Blues. Blues fans have been conditioned never to feel like the team is a contender, and this year's team has plenty of flaws, but looking around the West they look like they've got about as good a shot as anyone. And if they can possibly win the conference, they should not be trading assets for futures but should go all-in.

He is a great fit in NJ, a worthy use of their significant cap space, from the area, played youth hockey in NJ... but all of that applies to NYR as well. Devils have better cap situation but glitz obv goes to Rangers and Devils owners have not yet shown they will spend for a UFA. They have the cash, but haven't done it yet either in NJ or in Philly with the 76ers. So hard to say. He would be a perfect fit for that team tho.

Army should have just taken the Eriksson+Spooner+ for Shattenkirk+ deal last TDL.

There was no deal that involved both Eriksson and Spooner, and if I recall correctly it was Boston who walked away because they didn't want to take Lehtera.

I guess it's common knowledge and I've been living under a rock but why is Shattenkirk leaving again?

As other have said, we have Pietrangelo and Parayko on the right and both are better than Shattenkirk.

We also have 3 very good PMD prospects. Schmaltz is right handed and nearing NHL ready, plus we have Dunn and Walman who are both left handed.

It doesn't make sense to invest the money to keep Shattenkirk.

It also doesn't make sense to let him walk away for nothing, but it's an increasingly realistic scenario because our GM doesn't know when to push through trades.

Letting players walk as UFA's is part of the NHL, especially for good teams. They all do it. Now if the Blues were terrible and had no chance at winning the cup, it would be really stupid to hold onto our UFA's. The only possible reason the Blues would have to trade Shattenkirk either last year or this year would be to improve the team right now.

He's an extremely good value right now at ~4mil.

So in order for the Blues to trade him this season they'd need to trade with another "playoff team", who needs a RHD, has a forward or LHD that would make the Blues better, and is an upcoming UFA with a similar current AAV cap hit.

Basically what I'm saying is that it makes perfect sense to hold onto him.

If Petry (MTL) is willing to waive his NMC (and if Shattenkirk is willing to sign a contract with MTL): Petry + prospect + 1st 2017 for Shattenkirk?

Why would Petry waive his NMC for St Louis, He supposedly agreed long term with Montreal. Because Montreal is still close to Detroit St Louis is like 700 miles from Detroit don't see him waiving for St Louis. And besides i think Shatty wants to play in America for a team in the east by all accounts.

no! pending ufas dont net that kind of value lol. hes worth a 1st rounder(top 5 lottery protected), b level prospect, conditonal pick(2nd rounder). so itd be something like... 2017 1st rounder(pittsburghs), lepisic, 2nd rounder 2018 (turns into a 1st if he resigns with us).

What if i told you he'd play in the west too. You're becoming an annoying broken record with this.

The cap hit of $5.5M for Petry would be brutal as well as the term. Add another $1M and we'd cover Shatty. That is an lot of money tied up on a 3rd RD.

I'd think the Devils could be a strong candidate to trade for him. Shattenkirk on the Devils would make the playoffs a pretty reasonable outcome.

oh I agree, I just don't think we have the organizational depth to realistically make a trade of that magnitude yet.

We can't trade a guy like Zacha right now, that would be counter-productive and I am sure the Blues aren't going to want picks, which is what the Devils have an abundance of.

Is Henrique deemed expendable on any level? Maybe around Quenneville? Maybe we include Berglund as a cheap center rental to hold a spot down for the rest of the year.

Hon? You're confusing your fantasies of Shattenkirk coming to save the Red Wings with your fantasies of Trouba coming to save the Red Wings.

Yeah so there's been mention that he might be willing to sign with a Western Team, Though no Western Team has been mentioned that he would gladly go to. There still more speculation that he would rather play in the east then west closer to home near New York City for family reasons.

First off i've never said that Shattenkirk is coming to Detroit, Right now that's just not an option. As far as Trouba to the Red Wings bet you it happens in another 4 years or so once he hits UFA in 2021 because that's where he wants to be home.

Baseless speculation about being closer to home. It's been reported that he made good movement with the Coyotes, but either the trade wasn't enough or an extension couldn't be agreed upon.

There's not much to backup the HF belief that Shattenkirk is NY or nothing.
