Value of: Kevin Korchinski

IF the Hawks pick 1OA and take Schaefer I could see them packaging Korchinski and the Leafs 2025 1st round pick to try and jump back into the top 10 to grab one of the following: McQueen, Desnoyers, Frondell or O’Brien.

That would be terrible asset management and McQueen should be nowhere near top 10 at this point. Infact he will be on some teams DND lists

And if Hawks move Korchinski + Leafs 1st it would be for established NHL talent

Another poster here was wrong in calling him a bottom 6 player but you are just as wrong in calling him a blue chip prospect. He's good, but he projects as a middle 6 player. Blue chip prospects are guys with superstar potential like Demidov or Nikishin. If Easton Cowan was a blue chip prospect there would be at least 50 blue chip prospects outside the NHL.

No I'm not because he broke OHL record for consecutive games with a point.

You can't do that and not be a bluechip prospect.

That doesn't make you a blue chip prospect. A blue chip prospect is a nearly can't miss, 1st line/1st pair player. A blue chip prospect would be someone widely regarded as a top 5-10 prospect league wide, not a top 50 prospect. Cowan is an A level prospect, in the same caliber as prospects like Rutger McGroarty or Nate Danielson. Very good, but probably not going to be a superstar.

Parekh for example is the first defenseman in OHL history with back to back 30+ goal seasons since Bobby Orr. He is a blue chip prospect because his boom potential is sky high.

Yeah but none of Del Maestro or Kaiser will be able to fill Korchinski’s role when he’s mire mature. You are talking about a top 4 D versus depth D.
True, but I think the premise is by the Hawks drafting Schaeffer the top 4 will look like this to some degree :

Schaeffer Levshunov
Vlasic Rinzel

although keeping korch on the 3rd line is a luxury, its probably beneficial to trade him for help where its glaringly needed. Its also possible to pick off a LD off the scrap heap and throw him into 3LD. If you think Korchinski will/can replace Vlasic then I see your point.

If the Hawks draft Misa/Hagens/Martone/Frondell then the whole thread is probably moot.

Sale + Molgaard
Don't think we'd send two guys back. You might be able to get both of these guys but personally I'd rather hold on to Sale as he is one of the few players in our org that has elite potential.

If Hawks fans want someone in a similar spot as Korchinski development wise than the guys that fit the best would be Winterton, Nelson, Goyette, Firkus, Sale, Nyman and OFM.

I think Firkus, Sale, or Nyman would be fair value 1-1 but I wouldn't trade any of them until one of them pans out. You could probably get other fans to agree to Sale but I am the gal who had Sale in my top 10 and my opinion of him hasn't changed. I don't think you'll find many takers for Firkus either. Nyman is an interesting case because he should be playing in the NHL right now and has had pretty great success playing up and down the line up, which is something we greatly need (mostly chemistry with Beniers which he could have) and we desperately need that kind of player. I personally would not trade him but it's probably debatable.

Winterton + OFM would probably be the best deal I could offer but if Chicago fans wanted someone else I would be fine with that too. Unfortunately Seattle is also desperate for top forwards.

great summary for the thread...IF they do land Schaefer, then they should explore moving Korchinski and Murphy for forward help

I like Firkus a lot, but Chicago has enough undersized forwards so I don't like the fit.

The value of Winterton + Molgaard is okay, but Winterton doesn't have the foot speed so Kyle Davidson would never trade for him. Same goes for Nyman.

Goyette is a non starter, and Hawks don't need D so no to Nelson.

I think Molgaard and Sale are the best fits.

Chicago could do Korchinski + Reichel for Molgaard + Sale.

Winterton's footspeed is fine as is Nyman's. Neither of them are particularly speedy but skating isn't the problem for them.

Doesn't matter. If they're average at best, Kyle Davidson will not trade assets to acquire them.

He obsessed with speed. He doesn't even care if the players are skilled or have IQ, they just have to skate like MacKinnon.

Not all that much. His value is probably on par with a guy like Logan Mailloux at this point. He was picked after the talent drop off in a weak draft, and I remember talk about how the Hawks went off the board.

Mailloux isn’t as valuable as Habs fans think he is. Korchinski is way more valuable lol

2011, 2013 and 2015

Dissapointments relative to expectations is not the same as a bust :D:sarcasm:
Nah they are still busts especially considering draft position and from a value standpoint you don’t pick a player at the top 10 hoping they top out at a 4th liner.

Also @the Beard is a big boy I’m sure he can fight his own arguments and not rely on a heroic knight to save the princess in an online argument

Korchinski has been absolutely terrible in the AHL and NHL. He gets walked atleast twice a game. I doubt any NHL team is going to give us much for him.

Neither is worth all that much, like I said. Mailloux almost seems like he’s been forgotten by a lot of Habs fans with the emergence of Hutson. And a large portion of the remainder who haven’t forgot about him don’t like him lol. As for me, I think he’s an okay prospect, but he does remind me of Nathan Beaulieu a little bit 😂
