Keefe snaps on Kovacevic

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

This reminds me of when someone from the Edmonton Oilers (don't remember who exactly, could have been the coach or GM, or someone else), after their crappy 2018-19 season, decided to make a very disparaging remark about Tobias Rieder.

Keefe needs to keep his mouth shut.

Keefe use to try to pull this shit in Toronto to.

And EVERY TIME he did he'd walk it back the next day because he is not a man he is gutless.

There is reason I call him cowardly Keefe and It's not just because he's horrible at his job, although he is that too.

It's because of this fake tough guy act that I saw for 5 years and I know there is NOTHING to it.

Why do you get upset at that comment? Very tame and then to chastise him for that? Stupid (to clarify I am talking about Keefe)

Won't speak for anyone else, but personally I find a coach calling out one of his players in front of the media like that to be pretty unprofessional. How tame or harsh the comment is doesn't matter. If you have a problem with a specific player's play, handle it internally, behind closed doors. Don't call him out to the media.

Sorry, don’t mean to confuse, but I was talking about Keefe being unprofessional for chastising him for such a tame remark.

Why? Neither the Rangers nor the Islanders are going to catch up and the Devils won't do anything in the playoffs without Jack Hughes.

lol

So your argument is that they will make the playoffs and any type of concern for their current play is meaningless, and also they won't get far when they do make it, so making the playoffs doesn't matter either.

That's some nihilistic thinking and I don't subscribe to it.

This group needs to make the playoffs. Even if they lose, they'll still gain experience. They'll understand how difficult the game gets in the playoffs and will be more mentally prepared for it (hopefully) in subsequent years.

Worked for a certain coach in Tampa

He is a disciple of John 'pop' TARTorella
That explains some things but he seemed unhinged after the game.
Torts is one of few coaches ever who can get away with it because he's one of few coaches ever who is prepared for things to be awkward for the long haul after he says whatever it is that he says. It never matters how bad things get becuase Torts is always ready to forget and forgive everything like nothing ever happened. He only needs his player to take in the coaching and then he will lavish you as much as he ripped you. It went that way with Vinny but it worked

Long story short, he has a capacity for conflict that is akin to the determination you need to tame a horse

Yeah that's just chicken shit right there. No one will respect you if you do that. And it's only a matter of time before you're cutting your captain's legs off for any kind of enforcement. You can't even say "Let the personal shit go. He's our coach and it's our job to listen. He told you to play better. Do it. That's final"

I have to imagine that's how that sort of thing goes at the NHL level and Keefe walking it back would be pathetic

Kovacevic has been awful.

Looks at the game winning goal the Flames had versus the Devils and what Kovacevic did

Bro got paid and stopped playing the game.

Torts got kicked in the head by a horse so he sucks at that too.

It is chicken shit and that's what he is.

But he Has everybody fooled because his regular season record is good.

Reality is he started in Toronto with Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares and Rielly.

Now he's got Heischer, Bratt, Hughes, I know Hughes is injured right now but still.

He went from one place loaded with stars to another place loaded with stars.

So he gets away with his bullshit because he gets carried by stars.

Nothing wrong with what Kovacevic said. It was pretty boilerplate. Even the reporter paraphrasing it wasn't anything bad. The fact Keefe wanted to cut him off quick and get his jab in and go is typical of the Brampton Boys. Scheming, snotty brats who thought they were kings of hockey and continue to get smacked in the teeth and blame the world for it.

I know Devils fans may see this and feel like it's an attack on them but they'll be a better organization when they rally around kicking Keefe to the curb and getting a good coach instead. The faster they do it the better everyone will be. Sheldon Keefe coaches the way he played. Pressure don't make him a diamond. Pressure breaks him.

Keefe is being unnecessarily hostile here.

Kovacevic says they need to have a playoff mentality going down the stretch. Nothing wrong with that comment, the season is winding down and the Devils are in a playoff spot.

Keefe decides to use that opportunity to take a personal shot at Kovacevic's performance.

It can be somewhat justified (although still wrong) if Kovacevic said the team sucked, or the coach sucks, or made a negative comment about the team in which case Keefe's comment would basically be saying worry about yourself. But he didn't, he said the team needs to have a playoff mentality which is a generic comment that every player makes all the time and Keefe took it as a chance to criticize Kovacevic's play. Keefe clearly has issues with the player but there's no reason to bring it up to the media.

He could have just said Kovacevic is right and we need to play better. If he's still pissed at Kovacevic, go in the locker room and talk to him away from the cameras. The media feeds into this. Now they're going to be asking Kovacevic what he thinks about Keefe calling him out and he has to (hopefully) be the bigger man and put out the fire his coach unnecessarily started. If he responds with a shot back at Keefe, now this becomes an ongoing story until one of them leave the team or acts like the bigger man.

Thanks for breaking it down so I don’t have to. Bizarre response, I’d be pissed if I’m Kovacevic.

Huh, I didn't realize that all those players are RD. Though I believe Guhle is playing on his offhand because they have a LACK of RD.

The poster said Kovacevic would be number 2 on Montreal, which was one of the dumbest comments I've read, so I don't know why you're changing subjects. He would be at Savards spot, as a number 6. Even then, he's not a fit for the system as he's not quick enough for a top 4 spot and lacks the IQ to play the hybrid system. As far as RD, Carrier and Matheson would be playing on the right over him.

Weak. Singling out and throwing a depth player under the bus publicly because he doesn't dare call the big guns out.
