If you say so, I trust you, but I look at this team and see an urgent need for puck moving on the blue line, some more reliable goal scoring, more physicality, and people who gel with elite players. It'll be the latter that controls his fate here but his record in Toronto that isn't promising.

Another streaky speedster seems like oil to Texas. Am I missing something here?

Pens third line blows and has been a major issue.

KK is a hell of a third liner that can have a Rust like impact on a line.

That is quite valuable and something this team really lacks with Rust being a top sixer now.

Again, I don’t know if you a pay the 15th overall and a decent prospect for that though.

If he can play in their top six full time its worth it... but he had two top end pivots in Tor he couldn’t gel with so...

Malkin and Crosby are better pure playmakers than those two, but that starts up the old “this guy will score 30 with them” BS we all know is horse shit.

Worst case scenario he becomes a replacement for Hornqvist.

If they can get A top 4 Dman for Hornqvist, I like how the team looks. Becuase lets be honest Hornqvist is a bad fit here playing on line 3 with McCann.

He can't create any offense away from Sid and the PP.

I have no idea what's worse...

Essentially trading Olli Maatta for a dozen games of Conor Sheary or this...

If he meshes with Geno, this is ok trade. He most likely wont play on Sid's line, as Sid will want Jake and Rust flanking him (or maybe Simon, or maybe Sheary if they stupidly resign him) If only thing he becomes is replacement for Horni on 3rd line, then this is back to shit trade. I still have no idea why they threw in Halander. There was no need for that at all.

yes, only teams not in the playoffs are allowed to trade
trades can happen at any point in a season or playoffs HOWEVER players cannot play for their teams in the post-season if acquired after the trade deadline.

Essentially Boston and Tampa could trade Kucherov for Pastrnak rn though both would be ineligible to play the rest of the playoffs so there is no point and teams in the playoffs tend to focus on them (though, in reality, what is a GM doing during the playoffs lmao)

I wouldn't have even given E-Rod a QO, so that's in the 'meh' category for me. He's a useful player, but unless he's making <$1M, I don't want him.

Kapenen won't fit well with Sid.

Kap is going on Geno's RW.

which means Rust is probably traded. in which we'll get burned and it'll make this trade even worse, becuase we're gonna trade Rust, who's way better than Kap, to fit Kap into the top 6.

That's not what it means at all.

If Kapanen goes to Geno... Sid gets Rust... whom he loves.

Basically what I'm driving at here is that 33 year old torn-gut Crosby and 34 year old arm-falling-off Malkin need more DIRECT help than try-hard, north/south, coach-favorite, "project" kind of guys.

But hey knowing JR there are like 25 more trades on their way so might as well wait and see. But this is a poor start, IMO.

JR, as of late, is just all over the map. He would trade a guy like Bryan Rust for like a straight up hockey trade that doesn't make us better but then he will pay 15th overall + top prospect for the same guy. A tweener top 6 who also can be a great L3 guy.

Kapanen in the last 2 years: 0.75 goals/60, 1.90 points/60 at 5v5
Zucker from age 25-27: 0.93 goals/60, 1.93 points/60 at 5v5

Kapenen will pot 20. The rest of his game aside from his speed and goal scoring is meh.

But he's very talented and maybe he breaks it open here. like Rust did.

Do we think he’ll fit at all with Crosby or Malkin since that seems to be where he’ll be playing? If his big weakness is that he lacks creativity or hockey sense, then him in the top 6 won’t last long.

Then where does that leave us? Fingers crossed this works out but man...just not the kind of trade I was expecting.

I suppose the hope is that his speed is good for them on the forecheck, he helps them defensively, he’s capable of potting 20 so he doesn’t Simon it up and opens space up.

Guentzel-Crosby-Kapanen
Zucker-Malkin-Rust

I question his IQ to work with either but maybe the rest makes up for it. Or JR trades him near the next TDL for whatever he fancies then.

I do think Rutherford needs Boterill back. Or at least somebody with authority close by besides Karmamos who might be a mole sent by his dad to sabotage JR.

The best part is that JR's even more of a shitshow in free agency! I can't wait to see what JR's handiwork does for us after we cut deadweight in guys like Bjugs and JJ, deal Murray since this is Jarry's net, and move one or more of Rust, Hornqvist, and Letang.

Kapanen is a very north-south player, he's pretty similar to Zucker. Considering how good Zucker has looked here, I'm not worried about Kapanen fitting at all.

I think people really need to try to separate the player from the trade. The trade sucked because JR way overpaid, but I definitely think Kapanen is going to be a good top-6 forward here.

People are justifiably questioning whether Kapanen is the answer for either of our scoring centers considering how he struggled to mesh with Matthews or Tavares, and his PP ability is unclear.

In a vacuum Kapanen has shown that he's a good 3rd liner, but his skillset seems like the worst possible fit for McCann.

It's a lot of quality assets for a player with a lot of questions about how he fits here. I'm having difficulty seeing how/where he lines up, but this seems likely given JR's comments:

Guentzel-Crosby-Rust
Zucker-Malkin-Kapanen

A lot of speed on the wing in that top 6 but not a lot of hockey nous outside of Guentzel, and Malkin once again gets deprived of a wing he's seen success with.
