To be fully frank, the only way you’re going to “change” Kakko is to force him to take summer training seriously. He’s never done power skating work, example. Even though it’s been his biggest problem. He trains with his friends. He allegedly worked in his conditioning the last few offseasons with nothing to show from it.

It’s unclear whether he’s just maxed out and incapable of improving or just being lazy.
That is utter bs. During offseason Kakko trains in turku under physical coaches Marko and Hannu Rauhala. Both coaches are respected and have together designed a training method for hockey players. Their clients include Kakko, Mikko Rantanen, Mikael Pyyhtiä, Matias Maccelli and Juuso Pärssinen and they train together. Rantanen has been a client of Rauhala's ever since the beginning of his NHL career.

To say that "Kakko doesn't take summer training seriously because he just trains with friends" tells that you don't know a single thing what you are talking about.

Kakko finally getting a fair shake on a different team and he's putting up near a point per game. I'm not surprised the least bit. Anyone with half a brain could tell he was very talented. Not sure why the rangers staff just couldn't figure it out with him.

Does what kakko is doing look sustainable, or does he look more like a 40-50 point guy out there? Is there an expectation he will still be solid, but eventually fall back to earth?

I don't have a crystal ball, but I think he'll be more than a 50 pt guy. Maybe something around 60-70 pts. If he's getting top line and PP ice time, then that's in line with scoring rates he's had before (around 2 P/60 at 5v5).

He hasn't done anything amazing or incredible. Had a few good games but mostly his teammates have capitalized on his passes and he's fit our team composition much better. There's no reason to think it isn't sustainable unless he takes some kind of massive injury.
