Back from the dead. Does he still have it?

If he gets a full, healthy offseason, can he come in and be a 75-80 point player next season at age 37?

Also, with his 30th goal and 17 games still remaining, probably not a coincidence either that now DeBrincat suddenly looks like a 40 goal guy once again playing with Kane after looking lost in their season(s) apart.

It really looked like Kane was a shell of himself and was an after thought player on that Wings team but he's still showtime.

Admittedly I have barely watched him this season. Wings fans, does he look like a PPG+ player over past 25 games or are his stats a mirage?

Love Kaner, and honestly I’m always wrong and have bizarre opinions. But I’m always serious when it comes to Patrick Kane and he will be dangerous if Red Wings make it , I think we all deep down know that.

The surgery he got was a major success and that’s great news for the hockey world.

#88 forever, man

KANE’S FIVE-POINT NIGHT NARROWS RED WINGS’ GAP TO FINAL WILD CARD SPOT
Patrick Kane
(2-3—5) stole the show with a five-point performance, including three in the first period, to help Detroit (31-28-6, 68 points) score a season-high seven goals and beat Buffalo. The Red Wings moved within two points of the idle Blue Jackets (31-25-8, 70 points), who occupy the Eastern Conference’s final Wild Card spot.

* Kane (36 years, 113 days) became the fourth-oldest player in franchise history with a five-point game behind Brett Hull (37 years, 170 days on Jan. 26, 2002), Alex Delvecchio (37 years, 27 days on Dec. 31, 1968) and Brendan Shanahan (36 years, 324 days on Dec. 13, 2005). Kane recorded his fourth career contest with at least five points (also March 8, 2022, Jan. 20, 2019 & Jan. 9, 2018).

Yes

I'm fine moving on from him. At 5 on 5 he really is not a good add to this team, with only 22 pts (5on5) while being a detriment defensively. Great on the PP and OT/SO, but most of the game is played 5 on 5, and he isn't a help there.

Needs to be re-signed.
But why the f*** would he want to stay with a shitty Red Wings team who choke and can’t keep the puck out of the net.

Well, first we're willing to put up with him dogging it for three months until he got a new coach he liked. Second, he's a negative 2 or 3 every month regardless of how many points he puts up. He's one of the hands holding that bag for coughing up too many goals.

he can be elite sometimes but not often enough. lacks 2 way game, consistency etc, PP merchant mostly.
2/5s hes a no show. 2/5s time he will be half decent., chip in on a 3rd line offensive winger tier, 1/5 the time he will break through

I’m glad I’m not the only one seeing it.

We need to talk about extending Jane, dumping tank, then going after another legit top 6 winger that can battle in the corners.
I think Kane would be fine if the wings were deep enough to roll 4 lines, he has been a little more active on D of late, but I don't think he should be playing second line, which if you keep him with DCat, is where you got to have him with the current roster.

Against better teams (ones with lots of depth) that line sometimes struggles to get out of their own end.

What is hard to measure, is what effect does he have on the team, especially the development of the yutes.

If next season, let's say Mazur, Nate and ASP are all on the wings by early in the season (if not out of camp)...is it worthwhile to have Kane around one last season?

I think it is more important to ensure Holl is 8D (if you can't trade him) than get another top winger, but if opportunity knocks, open the f____g door :)

I think it would be. I don’t believe the wings are getting any marquee free agents. But having Kane there makes the power play deadly.

Also, with Kasper on the line instead of Compher the 2nd line was able to get out of the zone very effectively. I’m noticing a dip on the 1st without him on LW. Kasper does a good job of decreasing opposition puck possession time in our end. I think Danielson will also help in this regard.

If we can do something like the below lineup I have confidence the team will be successful next year.

Danielson/Kasper - Larkin - Ray
DBC -Kasper/Danielson - Kane
Soderblom - Ras - Berggren or actual FA improvement that can pot 15-20 goals and get 40 points
Copp - Compher - Mazur (we gotta dump one of Copp or Compher and get someone that can play more consistently.)

With Kasper playing the way he is I think you re-sign for another year, two if possible. We finally have a 2C that can keep up with Cat & Kane offensively. But we have to get rid of Tank to open a roster spot.

Danielson/?- Larkin - Raymond
Cat - Kasper - Kane
Soda - Copp - Ras
Mazur/? - Compher - Motte/Shine/?

Remove Tank and Berggren.

Good grief.

I guess if you define an "elite" player, by the standard of Mcdavid or Mackinnon, then you're right, Kane is not elite.

Otherwise, IDK WTF you're talking about.

Elite hockey sense, elite passer, slam-dunk Hall-of-Fame career.

We've gotten way, way more out of him than anyone could have initially expected, yet still "fans" criticize. I just don't get it. It's like people watch until they see something they don't like about a player, and from that point on, it's all they will ever see. I mean yeah, he doesn't play defense as well as Kirk Maltby did. But, he's making an effort on D lately. I mean, for real.

hes got 6 GWG so far this season 7 last season leading the team. ill take it. pretty damn good
You beat me to it. I don't think we sniffed the playoffs last year without Kane and same goes for this year. I think he is worth keeping another year. Especially after he's had a fire lit under his ass playing with Kasper.

the best thing happening this season is papa kane and his son d'cat raising baby marco . i dont care who detroit couldhave on the coaching staff they wouldnt be anywhere near as valuable for marco's development as these two . draftin marco + dcat trade + signing kane all master moves by yzerman

Who will take care of Danielson next season? I hope it's not Tarasenko. Maybe cat will move to first and we have Danielson with Kane and Kasper , just like Datsyuk and Zetterberg with Holl. Ras and Soderblom on the third
