Kane Successful Knee Surgery - Jan 10 2025

You do know that the second the Oilers take advantage of the LTIR loophole... Uncle Gary is going to step in and finally to do something about it.
We can be the hero's for the rest of the league and finally get this loophole shutdown.

I don't see the big crime here. We are down a player so why wouldn't be able to add someone? It's not like we're enjoying having an important player out of the lineup and going under the knife. It's not even remotely Hossa's allergy or Stone's spleen

But we’re a small market Canadian team. That’s enough for Gary to close the loophole no matter how legit the injury is.

I'm glad he's taking this year to essentially repair his entire body. He's going to be the ultimate x-factor when he returns. If we get 21/22 season Kane... oh boy.

I think Monahan also did a bunch of fixes on himself and he's returned to form. hopefully the same for Kane

... and bring back Kostin retained for peanuts.

If Kane's on LTIR they likely won't need retention and could just get him super cheap. If I'm not mistaken they'll have space for about 7.5mil at the deadline.

Zero chance the Oil move out Kane at the TDL, but I would have time for Gibson at 50%. Grab him, someone like Kostin, and a quality 3rd pairing LHD, and I'll be happy going into the playoffs.

Yeah that's true also. They could just reacquire Kostin straight up for peanuts if Kane is LTIR-ed officially at the deadline. If we have Kane LTIR-ed and the acrued cap we probably have more cap space than we have assets to acquire players to use on that cap space anyway, so yeah bring back Kostin.

If he's back practicing with the team a couple weeks before the season ends and is ready to go exactly for game 1 of the playoffs than it is 100% a Stone spleen situation.

Kostin doesn't even make this teams opening night playoff roster with or without Kane. Waste of assets and time.

Maybe so. The difference I see is that Stone's spleen thing came literally right before the deadline, and happens to be one of the most impossible things to prove is actually real. Kane's issues were obvious in the playoffs and his surgeries are intrusive and consequential. I'd actually be surprised if he comes back at 100% like Stone did game 1 of the 1st round.

21/22 season playoff Kane was a menace. His performance vs LA and especially Calgary series was legendary, the way he dunked on Tkachuk is something I'll never forget.

Along with production, it's the swagger he brings that could take this team over the top. The heritage classic moment when he's like "what is anybody here going to do" and not a sound in the scrum, or randomly beating on Keegan Kolesar with body shots in the Vegas series are just some things not many players in the league let alone some one from our team has the bravado to do.

If Bowman is able to use the cap space to trade for a top 4 d to play with Nurse, a goalie and Kane comes back 100%. Edmonton is going to be a tough out in the playoffs even more so then they already are anticipated to be.

I’m just saying it’s more likely for a higher Iq/elite hockey player to get back to contributing after time off then it is merely a decent hockey player. Kane’s a good player but a step or two below Stone/Kucherov. Kane’s game is also built more so on his physicality than his hockey Iq, so the prospects of him being back to his same level vs. Those guys is less.

If he can’t get back to normal Kane levels of play. We’ve really gained nothing much in this LTIR scenario.

Now if we can replace Kane with a $5M worth of value to our roster AND get Kane back playing at Kane levels then we have the same advantage Vegas/Tampa had.
That makes absolutely no sense to me, but whatever. Hopefully he’s back and up to speed for the playoffs.

These are elite, high IQ players though. Stone was dealing with a bruised spleen(big whoop). Kane seems to be a bruised and broken everything, and is far removed from when he was at his peak here. We’d have to go back to before even his wrist injury.

I mean he still put up nearly half point per game last playoffs with barely functioning abdominals so there's that. Plenty of gifted athletes in the NHL not everybody does what Kane does, I'd wager some hockey IQ goes into that.
