Didn't know that was an issue either

I get why it took so long.

Let him heal up from his first surgery and now he will be able to heal up from this one.

Imagine being a pro athlete and not being able to work out either your core orf legs for like 4 months

Pretty much exactly why I wouldn't bank on him being back at all this year.

Hopefully we can get something nice with his cap hit at the deadline.

If you take from today 6 -8 weeks is close to the middle of march - 3 weeks of practice hopefully he can have an impact in Playoffs

Well, I was assuming Kane would be an healthy addition for the playoffs. This makes me wonder if he’ll even be ready at all. That’s a lot of surgery and recovery to go through. Then to be dropped right into the most intense and physical brand of hockey there is. I don't know. It’s up to Evander and how he recovers and feels. But maybe this pushes a return till next season territory?

I wouldn't bank on it. The guy hasn't played a hockey game in nine months and hasn't even been able to work out in months. 6-8 weeks is just recovery time from the surgery, never mind getting up to game speed.

I wonder if he would accept a condition stint in Bako as he's missed the entire year so far.

Can we take a moment to give him some props for contributing EVERYTHING to that playoff run, gawddamn.

It says his rehab from the previous surgery will be paused until he recovers from this surgery, so add that to the timeline as well. A return this season seems unlikely. 2 hernias, 2 abductors, 2 abdominal tears, and now a knee surgery. That's a lot for any human body to take, never mind an athlete that plays a heavy contact sports. Earliest we see him is in September IMO, and even then, he'll be 34 coming off a million surgeries, I doubt we get even close to the same player.

So clearly Kane is going to be out until the playoffs. (which is good)

The question is do we have the assets for a defensemen and an impact forward to replace what Kane brings?

Or are we stuck with a 4th line forward and a defensemen? When Kane comes back he will be trash.

The fact he got his 2nd surgery this late was clearly planned by the Oilers to have him on LTIR until playoffs. Which is good for us.
The surgeries that he already had + the knee surgery at the same time would have him bed ridden. I am hopeful that this results in him returning healthy for the playoffs but there's no shortage of pain and rehab for Kane.

Holy shit, I didn't think he would be close, but damn. If he plays in the regular season I would surprised, not even a hustle, just a hell of a recovery.

Kane said that even skating was painful last year, which makes sense seeing how much his play fell off. Reminds me of Patrick Kane's last year in Chicago, where many people speculated he was done as his play fell off a cliff, he had the hip surgery, then had a career resurgence in Detroit. Hoping for a similar resurgence for Evander.

Two very dissimilar games though. I can't see a human being even able to play an Evander Kane type game after this. They monster physicality he requires to be Evander Kane. We've seen the best, its pretty much over. These kinds of injuries are very tough to rebound from and especially at age. Then you factor in the game Kane plays and its seems untenable.

I agree, he has a lot of hard miles on his body. I am hoping for it but not expecting it. Too much wear and tear at 34 for a power forward who will have missed a calendar year. But here's hoping.

I like the player, but I think he's done. Maybe he can squeeze one more 20 goal season out of that body, but age and injury history are not on his side at this point also given the style of play he likes to play.

Trade him to Anaheim in a deal for Gibson (his wife is from LA, so that'll be an easy transition for his fam) and bring back Kostin retained for peanuts.
