Pouliot too, low-key.

They put this arbitrary "you can't pay Benoit Pouliot $4m" on it for some reason.

Analytics still had him as a vastly underpaid player for Edmonton in 14-15. He had 34 points in 58 games barely sniffing the powerplay.

When he was on the ice, his team was good. Simple as that.

Running back the same team with Hayes instead of Richards and the Bobbsey Twins playing less would have made them the best team in the league.

The funny thing about Stralman was, he wasn’t even a one year wonder with the Rangers, he was dominant here. They let him walk to Tampa, who was literally going for it every year, and he gives them 4 dominant years, and a fine 5th season.

Let him walk right over to the team that knocked us out.

Let Boyle walk for no reason too.

I'm the first one to say don't overpay for role players but none of them got that f***ing much.

What an all-time dumb off-season that was.

In the next couple of years we lock up the core.

2023 kakko: if he hits 30 goals this year you ideally try to get him for 8 years $50 mill for a $6.25 cap hit. Hed probably prefer something like 6 years tho to cash in again.

2025 laff: if he hits 30 goals again you try to lock him up for 8 years but like kakko hed probably prefer 6 to cash in again

2025: same for kandre who will likely want $8mm by then

I'm pretty sure Boyle wanted to leave.

Stralman wanted to stay though. Im 99% sure Sather didn't even return his agent's call.

Girardi/Staal f***ed up a bunch of things for us.

On top of Boyle and Pouliot, I also forgot we also let Dorsett and Carcillo go for.... Tanner Glass to the tune of $1.5 million dollars. Let 3/6 of perhaps the best bottom 6 in hockey walk out the door and replaced it with one of the worst forwards in NHL history.

It did open the door for JT Miller, Kevin Hayes, and Jesper Fast to step into roles but it left Dominic Moore on an island practically.

They freaked out getting bullied by LA in front of the net so they wanted tough boy Tanner to do...what exactly? You know how that goes.

We were never gonna be as big as LA. Nobody was. The key to beating them was moving the puck better. So I kind of got the Dan Boyle thing but not at the expense of Stralman. They should have dumped Girardi or Staal before they had no value.

Not to mention LA didn't make the following SCF. Didn't even make the playoffs. Reminds me of how we blew up the '94 team planning for Philly, who never won anything. You don't roster build for one matchup.

I’m happy with this. His numbers were a bit inflated this past season imo. Very good player but not quite great, and I was worried he was going to get paid like a young top pairing d-man instead of someone who has something to prove. Let’s see if he can drive offense better in the next two seasons. If he can, pay the man of course.

The Dobson contract was always the comparable.

pisses me off, they let stralman walk to sign dan boyle because the rangers offense from the blueline was atrocious...but they never gave a guy like stralman a shot at an offensive role and never appreciated what he brought to the team. They actively got worse because AV liked either big dumb shitty defenseman or one dimensional offensive defensemen

Correct answer. Sick of this shit.

We drafted him and in retrospect, it was a bomb ass pick. It should cost us nothing.
There should be no cap penalty for signing/re-signing any drafted player or player that made their NHL debut with the team. Its ridiculous that the NHL penalizes teams when they do something right, and somehow teams like Tampa and Vegas are allowed to circumvent the cap at will and win Cups.
