Considering the way rangers fans talk about him I’m expecting 8 x $10

It's hard to imagine why he'd take a multi-year bridge deal at only $4M. If he signs at that low a $$$ value, i'd expect it to be a 1-year gig to give the Rangers time to sort out their longer-term cap situation.

At that price, he'd be prime offer sheet bait. I also don't see him betting on an insane mega payday like Noah Dobson appeared to do. I don't see quite the same offensive upside and Norris potential there to justify that gamble for Miller's end.

The last time I saw a team approaching a cap crunch like this their star winger missed the entire regular season and came completely health for game 1 on the playoffs.

I say the Rangers figure out a way to do it. Trouba might suffer some unfortunate malady, maybe they do what San Jose did with lebanc, but they'll get Miller, Chytil, and Laf signed.

Devil's advocate: Why would he sign that? Offer sheet compensation for a deal up to 4,201,488 is a second round pick. Up to 6,302,230 is a First and a Third. If he's actually as good as everyone says, why wouldn't an opposing GM throw a 5M+ offer at him just to make Drury's life miserable? They could throw the same type of deal at Chytil and put the Rangers in a really bad spot.
I said 5.8 - 6.2 x 5
If someone throws something like 9ish per x 7 that is a prob
howev, not seeing that esp since most clubs do not have cap flex to go there

imo KAM not gonna bolt for a bit more. Makeup of the club is essential
Rangers young core is key here

For offer sheet purposes, if the offer is >5 years, you take the total $'s divided by 5.

You can offer $8.4 x 5 and only give up the one 1st rounder.

$8.4 x 7 = $58.8 / 5 = $11.8 which is >$10.5 and would be 4 1sts.

Ah ok, well then $8.4m x 5 would be the offer. I'd rather have Miller than a 2024 1st, even a high 1st.

Do the Rangers match at $8.4m x 5?

imo prob yes assuming trade is not more profitable.
But who has cap for that, can + will do that?
Again, if he wants a cup AND get paid, a team w/a young emerging core is best, and that is Rangers

6x6.75-7 the provorov contract with maybe cap adjustment to get to 7 AAV.

Otherwise the bridge will start with a 5 for AAV.

Lol idk how you hate K'Andre Miller as a player, he's been absolutely incredible this year for NYR and you'd have a disgusting first pair if he legit got time with Fox. I'd go 6.5-7x8 with him ASAP.

Two things to keep in mind.

1- Miller is coming off of his ELC. He has four more RFA years to go and no arb rights. A bridge of 3x$4M would more than quadruple his current salary.

2- An offer sheet not only needs to be tendered by a team, but also signed by a player. K'AM has never indicated anything but good vibes about being a NYR. He's been developed well, trusted in (no pun intended) key situations, and he's on a young team just entering a window of contention. And that team is set to have a healthy chunk of cap space in three years time when he gets set to negotiate his third contract.

I just don't see too many GMs willing to piss off Sather, nor do I see K'AM looking to screw over his current team/situation for some unknown.

1. If the Rangers listen to me, and are not stupid, so they keep the young core as much as possible, that means we could have a window open for a long time, like 5-7 years.
He stays and he is part of that.

2. After next season, that = just 1 + more season, Trouba + his 8m can be dealt and we can expect signif part of that recovered
And only 3 years after this season, bread's deal is up.
Bread not moving now/this season, but it is reasonable to think rather than look bad by being here when we are likely, due to cap, to not offer him anything, let alone a deal for a lot less, he will relent and waive for a place he approves before his deal is done.

So KAM + Chytil both know that long term, $$$ is not a prob. They just gotta work with us to navigate the above/

As to KAM deal, I am predicting max 5 yrs, pulled down by term to 5.8 or 6.2
He will still be young enough at that point to get something in the 10/+ ish range, if he keeps progressing
Do you think the Rangers could move Trouba that easily? Will there be a taker at 8M AAV?

Jake Voracek looks to be LTI'Retired, so suddenly the Jackets have a lot more cap space. If they get one of the top centers in this year's draft I think they pivot away from rebuilding towards trying to win now.

Again, if he wants a cup AND get paid, a team w/a young emerging core is best, and that is Rangers

Cup might be a bit of a problem in Columbus.

But there's a chance they add Bedard and Jiricek next year and if you also add K'Andre Miller to that then it suddenly looks like a potential contender.

I don't know about the full 8 but we can get 6, 6.5 retained or 8 with a bad but expiring contract.
He has to submit a list
we will have limited options, but we will have 1-3 or so choices at min
and main thing is any decent return ok, just make cap

This is extremely difficult. He's coming off an awful season. 6 or 6.5 for what is essentially a mediocre 2nd pairing or tremendously overpaid 3rd pairing defenseman. He's has 3 more seasons remaining. Tough sell, especially when the whole league knows the Rangers have serious cap problems.

A significant pick is going to be needed to go along with him, or you're taking back 3-4M in salary.

This isn't getting rid of Ryan Reaves and one year of 1.75.

I think it's silly to think any GM is going to be scared of Sather. He's 80 and not even the GM.

....
Setting aside a team may have a dire enuf need to settle for a Trouba w/flaws, remember across the board RD is still in demand due to lower supply, that aside, as to taking back 1-2 bad contracts, those can be expiring, hence moveable, or easier to buy out cap hit wise.

So, piece of cake, no.
Do-able, entirely.

This is the list of players who have signed offer sheets since the implementation of the salary cap in 2005:

1675090324138.png

Only 2 were not matched. Only 2 have been signed in the last 10 years, and one of those was a revenge signing for the other. Which team wants to piss off the Rangers? You know Dolan won't let something like that go.

Weber is the only player on this list who was arbitration eligible when he signed the offer sheet.

Assuming either Chytil or the team elect arbitration, there will only be a very short window during which he can sign an offer sheet. The odds that he signs one are extremely low.

There aren't many teams that have the cap space to offer sheet one of these players, never mind both. And if they offer sheet both, they can't use the same draft picks for both, and they can only use their own draft picks. So one would have to be 2nd round compensation and the other 1st and 3rd.

None of Miller, Chytil or Laf will sign offer sheets.

The thing is Rags fans started by saying 3 x $4. If Someone offers 5 x $8.4 its not a little more money. I would be surprised if a player was offered this kind of deal if they would turn it down because they like the teams core.

Several other RANGERS not rags fans may have said that #, I am early on as to why go half assed with a lower # if you can go fully assed and said 5.8 or 6.2 x 5. That 8.4 is a bit more, but just over 2m more per on generic team which is not likely to have a young core and opening window for as long as Rangers favors NYR.
Said it before will keep repeating til it sinks in. Best chance NOW is lots of youth + coupla star contributors = long window, multiple attempts to win the cup. Alternate destination not so much.
So chump change offer, yes he's extremely tempted.
Ballpark close offer, home team this time takes it.

Also remember also benefits to playing here -- get comfy w/Madison Ave = commercials = other $$$.

Who's the last Ranger you've seen in a commercial besides Henrik Lundqvist? Everyone says NY gives opportunities but I don't see anyone. Granted I am upstate so I may be missing it but who is getting these opportunities?
