10th most ES goals in NHL history by 18 year old.

Only players with more:

Jagr, Kovalchuk, Laine, Skinner, Crosby, Yzerman, Hawerchuk, Carpenter and Tremblay.

I think you could call that elite.

I would like to point this is unfair to certain player(s) due to their date of birth so it's not an achievement :sarcasm:.

Comparing them is fine, even preferring Kakko is fine. Nowhere in my post said that's not okay.

All I'm saying is Svechnikov had an elite season even though the points weren't there. His underlying stats scream "produces more individual chances than any other player in hockey"..... AT 18. To me it would be crazy knowing what we know today and taking Kakko. Without hesitation, I'd take him over any other forward drafted since Matthews.

I don't really care for advanced stats but he did look so, so much better than his point totals. Svech is going to be a hot topic next year, but so is Kakko. This is very close.

Svech plays like a really skilled power forward. Just wait til he fills out his frame a bit more. He played most of the season in a third line checking role. He excelled and improved his defensive game as the season went on. Even still, with a limited role and minutes he managed to pot 20 goals and got better as the season went on. He was on fire in the playoffs before he poked the old Russian bear and took a mauling.

I'd take him over Kakko without a second thought. That's not to say that Kakko won't end up being a better player but he still has a lot to prove. And no, scoring like he did at world's does not prove he will make a great NHL player. Just wait until Kakko has less space on the smaller ice and we will see how his game translates.

I know a thing or two about young bodies, and I know that they never ever get bigger once you reach 16 yrs old
