I think this question could have been asked in 10 and 11. Seguin or Landeskog? Can't really go wrong with either.
If Kakko is a center at some point that would give him a slight edge.

Yup, and I had Pettersson 1st OA in 2017. Svech is gonna be eliteeeee.

Svech sure will be elite, he almost already is, but Pettersson is really a complete player who does most things better than Svechnikov in my eyes.

He's the only one close imo.

Nico Hischier is too, and possibly Brady Tkachuk. I do think Svechnikov is better than both of them though. From this draft Hughes or Kakko might be better but time will tell.

I like Hischier, but not on the same level. Both Tkachuk's might have a case (especially Brady, weirdly enough) , but I think really only Hughes, Kakko, and Pettersson come close.

Svechnikov will be good and so forth but Kakko will be heir to Peter Forsberg. One of the best players in the history of the game.

This poll shows, that there are way more Rangers and Finnish fans on the forum, than Carolina and Russian ones...

Nope. Kakko has been a much more impressive prospect, IMO and looks to have a very high floor as an NHL player on top of the higher ceiling. This is case where you pick the 'mystery box' over the 'established player'.

I think the poll results reflect it pretty well. As a neutral fan (non-NYR/CAR and non Russian/Fin) I wouldn't have to think twice about KK over Svech if I could take one for my team.

Going into their respective draft years, Kakko is the more skilled player. Having said that, everyone likes the new toy.

On draft day I might be leaning on Kakko for both. However, must go with the proven NHL talent here. Serious though not fair to compare Kakko to one of the best rookies in the league.

I think it's pretty close, but I like Kakko's puck skills (puck handling and shooting) more personally, so I voted for him. We'll see how much of it translates though. Svech is the better skater right now which is really important at the NHL level.

I don't think its that at all. IMO this poll would look a bit different had you added a "too close to call" option.

Svechnikov had great stats, but not as much actual production as you might have expected for stats like that... when people are comparing it to Kakko's worlds performance. Add in a splash of recency bias and this is what you get.

kakko ainec, svech was underwhelming this season

He was? 20 goals, all even strength while playing 3rd line minutes with Jordan Martinook and Lucas Wallmark and limited PP time?

I won't argue with anyone that says Kakko > Svech because I don't have a clue (as I didn't see much of Kakko), but people need to put Svech's season into perspective a bit rather than read scoring stats.

Poll should have too close to call option. Svechnikov played some amazing hockey this spring, hard to pick Kakko over that as of now.

Comparing them is fine, even preferring Kakko is fine. Nowhere in my post said that's not okay.

All I'm saying is Svechnikov had an elite season even though the points weren't there. His underlying stats scream "produces more individual chances than any other player in hockey"..... AT 18. To me it would be crazy knowing what we know today and taking Kakko. Without hesitation, I'd take him over any other forward drafted since Matthews.
Never heard of a 37 point season being called elite.
