They can't win without Guhle, and when he's not there to take the tough minutes everyone else looks bad trying to step up.
They're going to need Guhle to mature physically so that he's knocking people down instead of being pushed around, and they need at least one other guy who can eat minutes. Hutson may get to the point of not being sheltered but he's not going to take tough minutes, nor is Mailloux, or Barron. Matheson plays crazy minutes but not really well. Struble's fine, and I suppose he could grow into that, but he's not there yet, and he's 23. Xhekaj needs to get to that point, but he's having a rough time, Savard wasn't a top pairing guy at his peak and he needs a smaller role.
Unless someone really takes a step, or Reinbacher heals really well and develops very fast, they are a D or 2 short of competing. They should have a high pick in the next draft, but most of the top guys are forwards. They need to use a bunch of the late firsts and second round picks on D, and hope they can find someone physical who can play against top lines. Or trade some of the offensive guys for an underrated defensive player.
