Player Discussion Kaiden Guhle

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

The more I think about it, the more I think we should trade Guhle straight up for a young C rather than package quality futures (1st and 2nd round picks) and good prospects (Hage, Fowler, Beck, Kapanen, Mailloux).

Matheson could be extended and would remain a minute-munching top-4 LHD (2nd pairing minutes to limit his exposure against top lines) for the next 4 years with a team-friendly extension.

That would leave enough time for Arber Xhekaj or Adam Engström to mature into a top-4 replacement for Matheson.

Jump forward to past the trade deadline next year, once Reinbacher has eased into the NHL on a third pairing:

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Laine - 2C - Demidov
Newhook - Evans/Beck- Heineman
Anderson - Beck/Evans - Gallagher

(Kapanen #1C in Laval)

Hutson - Reinbacher
Matheson - Carrier
Xhekaj - Mailloux

(Engström #1D in Laval)

Montembeault
Dobes

(Fowler #1G in Laval)

Because of his injuries, his value won't be high enough to fetch what the Canadiens would need, even though he's the best defenceman from his draft and one of the best defensive defencemen in his age range.

That defence is awful. You have two guys that can be relied upon defensively, and one of them is a rookie. The Habs would have to win every game 6-5.

People seem to forget the massive impact the Guhle-Carrier pairing had.

He's very injury prone though...like it seemed that every game leading up to his ultimate injury, that he was about to get injured.

Not sure what it is with him, but he's by far the most injury prone player on this team.

Still a very good and valuable player though, not suggesting they should get rid of him.

even more injury prone than Dach? thats hard to beat

Probably the same as Murray Baron now.
never seen a guy get KOd so badly o_O

Speaking of KOs, who remembers ELITE Richard ZEDNICK... the guy was absolutely on fire in the playoffs - one of the best performances we saw prior to Kovy arriving.. and Boston's Kyle McClaren literally (well not literally but metaphorically) decapitated him (eerily similar to Evans v WPG)...

Agreed, it’s an issue. But at $5.5m per year, I think it’s fine. That’s 2nd pairing money and it’s likely his ceiling because you can’t really rely on him to play 82 games.
