With the recent Byram-Mittelstadt, it got it me thinking as the Habs need to do this kind of trade. The team has more than enough D-man in the lineup and in the system but lacks good forwards.

What would Ghule's value be? He's 1 year younger than Byram. At this point, he's not as a good but he does not have the concussion history Byram has so I think it evens out.

Also as a reference, Romanov was traded for the 13th overall pick in the 2022 draft before that pick being traded for Kirby Dach.

What kind of top 6 forward could Kaiden Guhle return?

Guhle isnt going anywhere.....trading him would be another Sergachev situation......

They have 4 1st rounders in the next 2 years so far and many other LD prospects they can trade. use those assets to get a forward.....Guhle stays

The proposals here are pure fantasy. Take a deep breath, it's just for fun.

Eventually though, some D-men will have to be traded:

Ghule
Reinbacher
Hutson
Xhekaj
Mailloux
Engstrom
Konyushkov

That's 7 D-man. Not everyone will make it probably but I am also not counting a vet or 2 that will be added to that group (whether it's Matheson and Savard or others).

I did not include Harris, Kovacevic, Barron, Struble who have no to little value but are currently part of the D-core as well.

Tomasino hasn't been given a fair shake in Nashville really and wouldn't surprise me if he's moved in a change of scenery kind of change. With the right opportunity he can flourish into a top 6 player.

Preds also need LD with Josi and McDonagh not getting any younger.

Tomasino+ for Guhle?
Tomasino's from the 2019 draft and that is Hughes' fetish.

Fair offer would be Preds adding a 1st but the Habs would need quality over quantity.

I'd say Guhle isn't available for a change-of-scenery type of move, he's being used on the top pairing, and will likely be a fixture there for a while. If moved, it'll be for someone who's also shown the ability to play high in the lineup.

That being said, Tomasino is the kind of young player Kent Hughes likes to go for, so if Nashville wants to move on from him, I could see a package of Winnipeg's 1st and a young D (Justin Barron or Jordan Harris come to mind) being offered for him, if Nashville isn't going to be giving him a larger role in the medium term.

I'd certainly be interested from Edmonton, but the best we have for a young forward is Ryan McLeod, and I don't anticipate that would be nearly interesting enough for Habs fans here to agree that it is fair compensation for Guhle as he doesn't have the offensive upside of a Middelstadt or someone like that.

Guhle's really good, but we're so overloaded with lefties he doesn't make a ton of sense. We already have to move Kulak this offseason to make room for Broberg.

Unless it's another young D prospect, not worth it to trade. Too valuable to the habs.

I agree that positionally he doesn't make a ton of sense, but I would take Guhle and move Kulak and Broberg for help in other areas any day of the week. The real issue is getting him enough ice-time for his skill level when Nurse and Ekholm are both ahead of him on the depth chart. Either way, we don't have a piece with enough value for the Habs to do it.

If say Guhle and Reinbscher are the safe ones.

I really can’t imagine a scenario where Guhle is available and the reasoning provided doesn’t make sense. Struble/Xhekaj/Harris/Barron aren’t anywhere near his current level of play or his upside. TBD on whether Hutson is anything more than a PP specialist or if Engstrom develops in NA. Matheson plays an entirely different brand of hockey and is not a part of the long term future of the team.

Romanov was/is half the player, the value isn’t comparable.

A young top line forward that isn’t a defensive liability would be the only return I’d consider.

There are no "safe ones" for the Habs, but its hard to imagine a team would make an offer that would make them consider moving Guhle, Reinbacher, Hutson or Xhekaj at this point in time.

I can see Montreal shipping out Guhle for a forward if the draft is a run on forwards early, they grab Dickinson, who I think will be really good, better than Guhle, but I imagine the Habs will get one of Celebrini (dream to win), Lindstrom, Catton, or Demidov.

In reality Guhle isn’t being moved but for the sake of the thread, I would say someone like Zegras would need to come the other way
Ducks don’t really need guhle, we have Mintyukov/zellweger/fowler and plenty of lhd in the system, and especially not for zegras.

Maybe Reinbacher would interest us, as we are weaker on rhd(luneau and gudas, rest are a ways away)
