Pretty sure you want to wait till after the 4 nations tournament to trade Kakko.
I would argue it should be even later than that, but I agree.

If theres a deal to be made for Brady or the like in the summer you'd want to keep as many chips as possible and Kakko, while not a huge chip is still a very nice sweetener.

Which is what i was saying before. Dont just make a trade for trades sake please. If you are gonna move the kid its gotta be for a needle mover.

I really think at least a half dozen Rangers are on the block. I suspect/hope Drury is waiting for legit trades so it could be anyone going first.

Just for reference he's scoring at about the same rate (per60) 5v5 as Lafreniere last year and his primary assists rate currently leads the team.
Yep. On a team with so few 5v5 play drivers, trading a cost controlled one at 23 years old who won't yield a huge return, and is defensively responsible (outside of his last game), doesn't sit well with me.

I will defend Kakko all day. I like what he brings. I like how little he gives up defensively. He's a net-positive player.

The only way I feel okay trading him is if he's included in a larger package with someone like Miller or Kreider (or both) to get a star defensemen or center in return.

Kakko has been done a tremendous injustice by this organization. He's a scapegoat when the top 6 doesn't perform.

I dont think trading Kakko is a solution to a problem. He is very good on the boards and creates space for his linemates. I dont think he would be due a big raise due to his stats so thats a plus. Can lock him up at a reasonable price.

Im not opposed to moving him in some type of package deal, but he is a solid NHLer and has gotten no real PP or PK time. Dont really see a need to trade him.
yep this is where I'm at.

I totally understand and agree that there were other players who should have been scratched before Kakko. But dude has 4 goals in 29 games, 9th on the team. Him acting like he is unscratchable is embarassing.

My issue with Kakko is he has never took ownership of his poor play, lack of development, lack of scoring. Hes always pointing his finger. Hes had plenty of opportunity.

To be fair I have seen fans online point a finger at multiple coaches and players for KKs production but I don't remember seeing KK himself point a finger.

Apparantly Kakko just called out Lav in a press conference.

Said “its easier to scratch a young guy” basically

Thats kind of a copout imo. Its not saying I'm playing well. Its saying well other (older) guys are playing bad as well. I had just defended KK but that is weak sauce imo. Other young guys also are not being benched. His own linemates are as young as he is yet they weren't benched.

They traded Trouba. They scratched Smith. Who gets scratched will not make KK play better. The only one that can make KK play better is KK. How many years has it been? Have we seen an improvement in his skating? If Zibs is scratched will KK go improve his skating?

Are you missing the point? How does scratching Kaako fix Mika and Kreider the leaders on this team wearing letters making twice as much money for equivalent production dodge accountability?

When's the last time those 2 bozos forechecked and created a turnover?

Kaako had 2 bad backchecks that led to goals. He's also +10 on the year while Mika is -15. The net difference alone is significant.

Kakko is 4th on the team in 5v5 scoring.

As a fanbase we need to stop looking at him as a 2nd overall pick and appreciate him for what he is: A really good 2-way winger on the 3rd line at a reasonable cap-hit.

Kakko getting scratched while the mentally weak wondertwins get another pass, is inexcusable.

Good on him for calling it out too. He's basically saying "You should healthy scratch one of the vets, not take the easy way out and pick on a young guy"

And only equivalent production if you count the PP time that we force feed them with Panarin and Fox.

Only as significant as plus/minus is.

Hopefully benching Zibs/CK instantly leads to KK showing 5 years of improved skating ☺️

Strange how other young guys weren't benched since age is the only reason KK is benched.

Why does it have to immediately make Kakko better? They've been worse than Kakko all season; that is reason enough to bench them.
