Yeah, it's going to be tough. A lot will depend on how much we clear by trading Trouba and how much we plan to spend to replace Lindgren. I hope we can keep him.
LONG TERM is the play if he'll take it. 7 years

I can't see why he would. Not unless the AAV makes it worth it, which we probably won't be able to afford. He's making 2.4 now. Maybe he would take 3.5 for 2 or 3 years, but anything longer than that will require an AAV over 4 mil, maybe over 5 mil to get him to sign.LONG TERM is the play if he'll take it. 7 years

I find this board's rapid flipping on kakko to be hilarious.I'd like to find a way for 7 years x $4.5m if he'd take it
for real. lots of "kakko should be a part of the team moving forward" and not a lot of "wow i was totally wrong about this guy"I find this board's rapid flipping on kakko to be hilarious.
And i'd agree with that number. I think Kakko likes NY and doesn't want to leave. I do think we might need to do something like 4m x 5 though. Buy a few UFA years, get past panarin's contract and out of the worst of the cap crunch next year.

i take a pretty simplified view of this. players are either part of the problem or part of the solution.Well that's because he's not the same case as Laf. Laf looks like he still has elite potential and he has been a great even strength scorer and Kakko looks like a good complimentary piece. He has great chemistry with Chytil though.

As was i, and i was sadly probably the most vocal. But go back what 5 pages and you’ve got “he’s not an nhl player” rhetoric.I was one of the few who had hopes for him this season in the offseason though. Last year just looked like an aberration
I wouldn't lock him up for 7 x 4.5 right now. I'd still wait and see how the season goes with him. I think locking him up is jumping the gun a little here.

And there’s plenty of folks who should be eating crow and are instead just pretending they never happened
smith plays a very different game. It' been a roller coaster ride with Kakko but he's just a solid player at this point and I dont care about the draft position. Can he fill the Reilly Smith role for the Rangers going forward? Not flashy but effective. Im sure he may still be moved for an upgrade but he's our guy
smith plays a very different game.
Kakko has plenty of small things that are surprisingly really difficult to do in hockey.
Smith is a guy who skates hard, doesn’t create much for himself but makes a lot of opportunities.
Smith is significantly faster.I think Kakko should be watching Smith. Most of Smith's effectiveness comes from defensive plays in the neutral zone and forecheck that lead to opportunities'. He's a better finisher and skater than Kakko at this stage of their careers but 24 should focus on being that type of player and driving the net.
