There is so much hype about the comparison Hughes vs. Kakko but what about Kaapo Kakko vs. Lauri Markkanen (Chicago Bulls). I'm wondering which one of these guys is going to be the first Finnish superstar. They seem to have quite a lot in common when it comes to personalities too.

What was it that got deleted?

Well I wouldn't bet money on it but I guess it was the video of him saying something along the lines "wow, it's a nice city" in a super monotonous and slightly annoyed voice.

But then again, he's not the most expressive guy even in Finnish:

"As a young player, I used to think that I slept well. But then I tried out Tempur."

I guess we're all lucky that he didn't pursue a career in acting instead of hockey.

I disagree but that’s neither here nor there. Back to Kakko talk

Well, you can be interested in traveling to other places without caring about words on a map.

The kind of attitude you have towards certain sectors of education seem really short-sighted and ignorant in my opinion. You shouldn't rely entirely on technology aka Google all the time. Could any of you still use paper maps?

Also, do you really think that teaching other cultures at school is useless?

Yeah okej, thanks. It actually almost felt like someone forced him to do and say that line xD

Kakko is made for a big city haha... he seems almost indifferent or unaffected by the limelight. He's the type of guy that would perform exactly the same whether he's playing in Arizona or NY. There is a worry with some younger players getting distracted/going off course in a large city but I have absolutely zero concern with him.

I never said anything about other cultures, I'm talking about geography. It's nice to know it but it's not this proof how much more sophisticated Europeans are than Americans as many Europeans make it seem. I'll stop trivializing geography when Europeans get off their high horse about it.

I always felt players who wore number 68 were such tools. It's one of those numbers, like 66 and 69 that is so unique to an individual player (and ones who played relatively recently) that they should remain untouched. I know some people find this stupid, but it was pathetic to see douchebag Mike Hoffman wearing 68 in Florida the year after Jagr left.

I think taking a number like that just shows a lack of respect for the game. Especially when you consider what that number meant to Jagr personally.

To be fair, Hoffman's worn 68 since 2011, when he came into the league

I truly believe that had my school just sat us down for 8 hours a day and made us read books, rather than listen to its teachers and the imposed curriculum (generally based on teaching to the test), I would be far more intelligent than I actually am.

There are too many individuals and most of them would never have the patience for this, it'd be detrimental to a large portion of students. You're right about the puitfalls of the curriculums and teaching to the tests though. Did your parents make you sit down and read for at least 2 hours everyday?

The amount of learning and effort that does NOT go into education at home is what is killing the average American's intelligence imo but this is so OT.

If numbers aren't retired, people should not be *****ing about players using them

Lol, as I said, I knew some people wouldn't agree. But that's just a difference of opinion.

I just think it shows a respect for history to avoid those numbers. That's all. And especially in Jagr's circumstance where it wasn't just some arbitrary number, but commemorates both the Prague Spring and the death of his grandfather who was essentially murdered as a political prisoner that same year.

Jagr was one of the best players ever. Everyone associates 68 with him. Same with 66. Same with 99.

Maybe in 10 years, it makes more sense. But I like it better when players have a respect for those who came before them.

Yeah, I'm going to go with my original comment.

Doesn't work that way.

I love Kakko, but a guy who is already on the roster is under no obligation to give up his jersey number to a rookie.

While I think he likely wouldn't have a problem with it, or would be willing to work something out, him giving it up doesn't qualify as the "right thing."

And that's pretty universal for any locker room.

Have to imagine that Nieves is aware enough to realize and recognize all of the factors & circumstances involved... More specifically his lack of having solidified a more permanent spot and role in the lineup (thinking long term here) - and then the circumstances surrounding Kakko and him being a highly touted draft pick that the organization is going to want to market and sell merchandise around...

They aren't going to want Kakko choosing one number for a few months or an entire season - and then changing it as soon as #24 becomes available...

Either Nieves will recognize the circumstances and proactively volunteer to give up #24, or someone from the team or organization will approach him about it in a respectful/professional manner and he'll be understanding and offer to choose another number...
Didn't Nieves wear 12 in Michigan? No one on the rangers has that currently.
