The problem is all three of the Rangers best playmakers are on the same line if they play PSK. The twins are joined at the hip so that leaves Kaapo as the odd man out. Kaapo already showed good chemistry with Zib in this one game, broken as it was by penalties, and did the Buch thing by fishing out the puck for that lines goal.

It's the same old problem of wonky lines. Laf is also struggling points wise on the 3rd line partly because there is no natural playmaker on that line. Chytil is not bad, I like him, but he's not good enough to drive a line and he hasn't shown many signs he will be able to do so either. Chytil's time with the Rangers is running out I fear. He does have upside still.

Stacking all our playmakers on one line was always going to cause problems to the other lines. I would rather see Panarin with Mika and Kreider on the right, but with Strome still here that won't be happening. You can have one line play a bit more E W in Panarin/Zibs/Kreider and another line built around Kakko that's more grindy/possession heavy.

Laf can still shine on that third line. He has great vision but is a tad too slow to connect on a lot of them right now but that could easily change. That line could have racked up points these past few games if Chytil wasn't snake bitten right now. They've earned more time together. I don't think a Chytil decision is coming till sometime next season. We're going to be tight with the cap next season and the rangers have to see how much the kids will improve and cost to see what trades they can actually make.

The Kreider-Zib line always made more sense for Kakko. Everyone here was calling for that switch. It is a bit head scratching that it came just as he was adjusting to Panarin and Strome, but that Zib line absolutely dominated the isles with Kakko on it.
I think it was a fair coaching decision to let Panarin-Strome-Kakko stick together for a good amount of time. It showed Kakko that he'll not be thrown around the lineup just because he doesn't light it up immediately. Good way to instill some confidence in him.

Life is about framing: If the coaches tell him "We think you're ready to help drive the play. You'll have more opportunities for that with Zib & Kreider," that's encouraging to a kid.

I think they'd been considering it for some time but the team's been winning. They choose a game against the weakened Islanders as a "safe" time to experiment.

We have a lot of talent, but we need to find a way for this kid to be on PP1. Maybe it’ll take an injury. Or at the very least PP2 needs more time.

Wont happen until Strome leaves
I know:(

Panarin and Fox are givens
Kreider is the best net front presence in the league
Mika’s shot

Which unfortunately leaves one spot and Strome hasn’t done anything to really lose it. And he would definitely whine a lot if it happens.

Was at work so only watched the highlights and I see Kakko absolutely robbed of at least 2 points lmao. That line might actually be great

Until the Rangers tell Strome to beat it, Kakko's thrillers will come on PP2. I know you're probably saying I'm a dirty diana with this comment, but I assure you I've always rocked with you on Kakko. I think Strome has been a smooth criminal cementing his spot PP1, and Gallant needs to look at the man in the mirror when thinking about the special teams units.

Kakko played a huge part yesterday in the first two periods, wearing the B's down so we could feast upon them later. Acting like a bull like he did yesterday in Boston, is so huge for him and us. The points will keep coming.
