My friends and I were discussing this play. They thought it was brilliant and I of course, the negative Nancy I am, was with you. ;)

I agree that while it ended up being a nice play, it was by no means intentional and shouldn’t have happened in the first place if he had even an ounce of confidence.

Knight was in really good position. Kakko had control at about inner hash. Possibly could have tried to go five hole above the goalie stick or roofed it short side when he was in tight. Super tough though and if Knight makes either save, there's bitching about inability to finish. In the end, the right decision is the one that ends in a goal. This one did, just Strome is a dumbass.

If that one timer Kakko had off Panarin's feed that rang the pipe against Dallas had gone in people would be much calmer. The margins are small. Kakko just needs to keep going like an energizer bunny.

Yep, that would've helped. He also had 5 sog against the Caps in the 1st game. A couple off of one-timers. It has to do with getting into the open areas within the box. It's something both he and Laf have to do better and most elite players do uncannily well. More so than the flashy moves.

He was trying to go around Knight so that he could tuck it in from behind the net. He’s done that before. It’s a high skill play.

Knight played it perfectly and Kakko showed a great deal of poise IMO. Zero complaints from me on that play.

Kakko is a star in the making

Look at tolvanens drought even if he's playing really well and shooting the puck, dach can't have a point to save his life but makes 3-4 flashes of greatness a night, kaliyev scores but is 100% useless if the puck isn't on his stick

All young players struggling, idk but kakko seems fine its lafreniere that is a liability

There was nowhere to shoot. That play was really good. That was a flash of high end skill that were all begging for.

I do agree that he doesn’t shoot enough in general though.

That had nothing to do with skill, nobody takes the puck from a high scoring area to behind the net on purpose, he needs to shoot the puck there, while I agree the pass was nice, he got lucky in a moment he passed up a high danger scoring chance, something he does way too often and a reason his point totals are where they are.

Then you shoot for a rebound....dont be a dumbass and take the puck from the front to the back of the net. He needs to shoot the puck otherwise he will continue to struggle with points.

And if that doesn't happen and they don't score there. You would have been nice play?!?! Great job Kakko! We wouldn't be here hearing people talk about Kakko's lack of finish anyways? I dunno, I think we would be.

I would have preferred he try to roof it when the goalie sprawled but what he did resulted in a goal anyways.

You’re wrong. I am positive that he was trying to do this:

Not wrong at all... he needs to shoot, it's why he still hasn't scored, he needs to use his shot, he got lucky on that play. How many plays had he either stopped skating on or never got a shot off on....way too many

He looked great. He got injured. He looked terrible coming back. Lately he seems to be on the mend trending back up. Not worried.

I agree, but it's a little crazy that he doesn't have any points in 9 games.

It's not like he's still on a line with Chytil and Di Giuseppe, which makes it even more puzzling.

Hey - I am probably the biggest proponent of patience on this board concerning both Kakko and Laf, and im not killing them for it - but this is getting a little ridiculous now. At this point you would almost get a goal or assist by accident on a line with Panarin

To make matters worse, here are all the players drafted in their first round D+3. We all know what Hughes is up to.

I'm just going to depress everyone now, what the hell:

Seider - 14GP, 2G, 9A - 11P
Byram - 10GP 3G, 5A -8P
Dach - 14GP, 3G, 2A - 5P
Tomasino - 11GP, 3G, 2A - 5P
Cozens - 12 GP, 1G, 4A - 5P
Zegras - 12GP, 2G, 3A - 5P
McMicheal - 10GP, 2G, 3A - 5P
Podkolzin - 11GP, 3G, 0A - 3P
Bjornfot - 13GP, 0G, 3A - 3P
Caufield - 10GP, 0G, 1A - 1P (Sent down)

0P this season
Kakko - 9GP - 0P
Soderstrom - 9GP - 0P
Krebs - 9GP - 0P
Harley - 4P - 0P
York - 3P - 0P
Newhook - 1GP - 0P

0GP this season
Broberg
Turcotte
Pelletier
Poulin
Heinola
Foote
Thomson
Holmstrom
Tracey
Beecher
Johnson
Suzuki
Boldy (Injured)

Will Spencer Knight get a point before Kakko does?

What and the actual f*** is going on here??

This is not some BS re-draft scenario thing. Kakko 10000000% should've been drafted where he was at #2. I am a big Kakko fan and REALLY want him to succeed. Im not looking for an answer. I am not saying he is a bust.

Bad chemistry and bad confidence. He did look great to start the season. I’m praying he gets 1 or 2 easy goals and it relaxes him and opens the floodgates.
It doesn’t help that 9 out of 10 times panarin is looking for strome. And of course he’s not getting any PP time.
I know he got 2 pts called off or whatever it was, but at some point, if your Gallant, you have to put him on a different line to try to get him going scoring wise

Not that it really matters but small nitpick. You've got the wrong Suzuki there. Nick was 2017. Ryan was 2019 and has 3 in 5 AHL games

The physical talent is fine. I bet his physical skills look good in practice with no pressure and a different pace. The biggest adjustment he has to make is mental. Getting a different view of the game could help. Sometimes in games it feels like guys are right on you but when you watch film you see you had more room. I'd encourage the coaches to have a weekly film meeting only with the young guys. Maybe watch some games or practices from up high.
