I mean, of course. But how are these advanced stats still so good looking for Kakko given his on ice context?
because he's actively controlling the puck when he gets it. Even last night, one sequence, he forechecked, stole the puck, got pinned by 2 guys, and still managed to get the puck to strome.
Those are massively postive plays without a point. He passes to people who are open in good positions. He's active defensively (broke up at least 1 breakaway) . He gets no help, but he doesn't turn the puck over in bad spots typically.

Fun fact: If Kakko busts, that'll be 9 straight top 10 picks that have either busted or had their relationship with the team demo'd.

Manny Malhotra (1998), Pavel Brendl (1999), Jamie Lundmark (1999), Dan Blackburn (2001), Al Montoya (2004), Dylan McIlrath (2010), Lias Andersson (2017), Vitali Kravtsov (2018).

Arguably 11 straight depending on your view of Nicklas Sundstrom (1993) (add him and Jayson More (1987) to the list). 10 or 12 straight if Lafreniere busts too.

The streak ends there... With Brian f***ing Leetch (1986).
You killed his father prepare to suck with your lottery picks.

Eye test - He does not mesh well with that line and goes entire periods with neither panarin nor strome passing it to him. He generates movement on the puck by doing the hard work, and then they play catch and he doesn't get a point. Panarin literally looks him off at times.
The game last night was a great example. Panarin had him wide open for a cross ice breakout, and then he turns around looks at everyone else, and then dumps the puck in where he has to chase.
In hockey this happens if someone does not like player he is playing with.

and unfortunately you dont get to do that if you're being paid 11 million f***ing dollars.
The coach dictates the line, and the player's play. tanking the team because you're an ass should be a suspension w/o pay.

This is fine. But how does one reconcile this with the fact that he has ZERO points? Bad luck would be a reasonable explanation if he had just a few points. Zero? Does he just lack the skills required to finish plays?
i mean his stats are not even out of tune with his line, he has no pp time so take pp points out of the equation and strome has 1 points in 8 games and panarin 3pts in 12.... so really you dont like to see it but it makes sense with his line

What a refreshing post. I imagine the kid would have several points by now if he played in Stromes spot on the PP, or was played over f***in Goodrow in OT

Crossing my fingers that he's just taking the Puljujarvi path to success. Might take a few years longer, but well worth it when he finally arrives. I see some similarities between the two. Aside from just both being Finns. But hopefully Kakko won't have to go play in Europe at all to do so.

Kakko’s progression from his rookie to sophomore season was so dramatic, it’s impossible to believe he’s already started to regress. He is playing with two players, that since they found each other, never seem to have any chemistry with other skilled players. This isn’t a coincidence. Until Kakko is away from the roller hockey twins and given an extended look with players that can even modestly attempt a forechecking and cycling game, I’m going to reserve judgement.

We can’t expect a quiet, 20y old kid who might already have confidence issues to find his game playing with two players that not only play at other end of the spectrum from the style that made him a 2OA pick, but are also notorious for being incompatible with other skilled players.

lets be a wording this ever never to be setted situationing of this moment abit more. it so so very frustrating time. i remember before he arriving at BIG apple and he like looking already like men amongst willows in very many situations at ice. remember him handeling other players to looking like kids, taking their candy from their hand and looking so mean an stuff. like playing with NJ number 1 pick at worlds, makin him looking silly too. then wehn arriving here all they do they brak his confidence instantly and not letting him play. he ...more of this downwards post. first going abit in mentioning of raymonds...JAMAICAN/(sweden) player

as saying ever never tinking still kakko getting into trouble here but like they treating him here seems like awaited things to happen here...but yeah..about raymonds.....

see how he not being 1,2 pick but picked up from team who not having very many uptop players and team open for young players to having very many minites and only for raymonds to playing offens hockey. i must say this not a fan of raymonds and never thinking ha can successing more than being like third line player at best in many team here. he got like jackpot in draftroulette he see this lucky situation and starting like maniac training in like his small limited hockeyknowledge. imagine like raymonds taking shot at florida roster this year. immediately they sent him home for growing up more year and before this he showing propably very frustrations in actings at ice . so some players very lucky not having top atletism and still having like in bananaslippery way their day at silverplate at high level from day one to be seeing. problems can occuring for like raymonds if team getting musselated and something unexpected thing happening in markets and things a change at their rosters

anyway how for supertalented kakko is to be when sitting at bench when other player a PP points takin and he only watcher day after day to this day year 3 going on? he wants to put up huge amount of points to scoreboards jumbotrones and they like to be teaching him defensspecialism here. easily feeling some alone at dark apartment with ATARIgames for time spending and stuff. they at N ; Y ; R camp shit up this situation totally. he should be playing all season for like 25 min in games if this thing even workds for getting his confidence back. no matter this only thing to do imo. these superplayers must be from day one in positively and silverplate to be served everything from day one othervise players mediocre like raymonds can seeming like to running away even if seem impossible. absurd looks at NHLleague today. very very absurds thank you

Nobody should be judged on 7 fing games especially when he was injured. It's ridiculous.

I can’t speak for others but I’m not “judging.”

I’m saying 0 points in a tenth of the season is alarming. Ie, it’s enough time to draw inferences of serious concern without final conclusions.

So not literally 'judging' by the official definition, but colloquially 'judging' by the definition that we're all using here.

He played better today, and would have gotten a point, if Strome wouldn't have (unintentionally) stolen it from him.
