I don't know...
By getting three defensive prospects that are almost ready, chances are at least one will be a decent top-4 for us.

Chicago's Nick Schmaltz is a center. You may be confusing him with his brother Jordan who is an up and coming RHD for the Chicago wolves (Saint Louis Blues AHL team). Easy to confuse the two.

well you did. With "Forsling and a first being off the table"
Them both being off the table does not mean both would have to be included in a deal for JVR. Could be one OR the other with +'s...but if they're both off the table then it's a moot point.

Ah, yes you are correct. I was thinking of Jordan.

Schmaltz for komarov straight up?

I just learned he's a C prospect. Not much room for centers on the Leafs. Something based around Pokka and Komarov maybe. I used to really like him when he was on the Islanders but if he hasn't progressed enough to be an NHLer then it might not be a god deal.
Whats his story, anyways?

From a Leafs standpoint...it's a big pass.

Zero interest in Kruger and that contract. Schmatlz is meh....hasn't shown me much. And Forsling...no thanks. Don't need him.

Hawks and Leafs are not good trade partners for JVR. It will never ever happen.

Schmaltz for komarov straight up?

as a hawks fan, i will give just my pov.

schm is on an elc contract, and komarov has 2 yrs left on his contract of close to 3 mil.... this is mostly based on money and value of the players worth. in other words, "cost of diminishing rtn"

Well, Pokka is approaching bust territory so he doesn't hold a lot of value on his own.
With your 1st and Forsling off the table, I don't see how there is a deal.

re the bold, there is this idea that many have use in the past, surrounding some prospects.

a change of scenery could be what the doctor has ordered.

JVR-Toews-Hossa
Panarin-Anisimov-Kane

might as well give the hawks another cup. that being said, the leafs would need a top 4 dman in any JVR deal and chicago just doesnt have one to spare. Seabrook you may ask? not with that contract

I would drive Pokka to Toronto for you

What is the cap situation in Chicago, I thought they had like $8.52(that is 8 dollars 52 cents) of space left.

Not sure why Chicago would be okay with spending 2.95 mil in cap space for komarov.

I don't think he's an adequate fit for a contending team's #1LW, even if he's being supported by toews

he is a lot better than panik, a fringe NHLer, and look what he has done with Toews. Leafs could easily retain on komarov to make it a 1.475 hit, and it would be closer to 1.1 now with nearly 1/4 of the season finished

Komarov is easily a 20 goal guy on a line with toews and kane, while playing a two way game Q would foam over

This would be an under the radar potential cup winning move IMO
