Justin Williams Contract Extension Talk

Stoll is going to be the odd man out. It sucks, I love Stolly and what he's done for this team, but the writing is on the wall.

Our bottom six next year will consist of some combo of:

King-Richards-Brown
Andreoff-Lewis-Nolan

I have a feeling Clifford will be traded. Stoll will move on.

And there are a fewer players such as Weal and Shore who will be looking to make the team next year. I wouldnt be shocked to see a few other moves made by DL to save $.

I think DL will do his best to keep everyone, but Richards is going to be the first to be traded if he runs into cap issues. Much worse players have been traded so hes not un-tradeable.

Given how Clifford is in the lineup more frequently than Nolan, I'd say Nolan is more likely to be moved than Clifford.

If Shore is ready, I think it is likely that he gets eased into the lineup and will transition into the future as the #2/3 C (depending on if they utilize Carter as a C or RW). They may just retain Stoll at a lesser cost than Richards and find a suitor that is in desperate need of a veteran leader like Richards, something a team like Edmonton or Toronto can desperately use.

King-Richards-Brown, man, that would be one expensive 3rd line. Something close to 13.5M.

If my math is right, the Kings will have about $17 mil to play with if the cap goes up to $73 mil (assuming Stoll & Regehr are gone, Voynov terminated, Richards stays). About $8 mil goes to Toffoli/Pearson/Clifford/Shore/Jones/others. Then the remaining $9 mil is split between Williams and somebody to pair with Martinez.

Are Shore/Dowd/Weal out of options next year?

How long have people been penciling in Clifford as trade bait? He's still here. I doubt he's going anywhere.

With money getting to be tight it's either him or King who have to go. They have value but make too much compared to what they bring. The drop off from Clifford to Nolan isn't much but the salary differences add up. Just my opinion.

King's salary doesn't concern me that much. Brown and Richards are the obvious problem areas. It's really not *THAT* bad, considering Kane and Toews are making more than 10 mill and the cap is most likely going up a bit.

However, Brown's contract is more troubling to me than Richards as I believe he is having a worse year.

Okay, so you're Dean Lombardi, it's December 2014. Like, five years ago, you made one of the greatest trades in the history of the NHL to acquire Justin Williams from the Canes. (for Patty O' Sullivan?... amazing. That happened?)

You're going to want to retain this guy. For a second, just imagine if this guy continues to ADD to his playoff resume. His teams just win the SC, like 40% of the time in a 30 team league, if there's any justice. That's how much JW hates losing. DL is going to keep his guy.

GMs are going to look at the W. Mitchell effect in Fla., and hope to get a bit of that "magic" (ie stick tie-up ability), and overvalue Stoll. I think Stoll will be dealt off, we'll call up our Manchester (or wherever they wind up in the western AHL) and he'll do excellently alongside our 35 year old 4+ cup ring 3rd line right winger Justin Williams.

I firmly believe the Kings will win the cup in June. And I think Williams will basically pull a Glenn Anderson 2.0 and get dealt to the leafs when he's in his mid-late 30's and win a cup with them.

5 Cups. HHoF 2024. Too many wins to ignore* I'm predicting cup wins with 3 franchises^. The IT factor. *also the roundedness of these numbers in game 7s: 7gp, 7g-7a-14pts 7-0.

I also think Kyle Clifford will be here, barring some sort of trade where he is ACCURATELY VALUED at being worth more than Nolan.

J. Nolan and the arena mullet glare off Dwight Kings teeth only matter so long as you can maintain the illusion that they might be on the same line long enough for it to catch your goalies eye.

Kinger is vastly more utilizable than Nolan. It was fun Jords, two cups here but let's get some picks from the Nolan heritage line.

I love your zeal for the Kings. It's going to be difficult for them to win it again. I firmly believe Lombardi will need to mix it up a bit for the playoff run to inject some new life into the team. Would really like to see Shore here, but Stoll isn't as much of a problem as some people think. He's actually OUTperforming Brown and Richards this year.

Brown is clearly the worst forward this year when taking his caphit into consideration.

I could see Stoll moving on (can't overlook he's being treated for some form of Arthritis which could get worse with age) Nolan, I still see him going to Sabres. Everyone worries so much abt Richards production and yet, as some have mentioned, Brown, in my mind, is a much worse issue. But then, I've never really been much of a fan of his for the last couple years.
Regarding JW.....he's one of the few on the team this year who gives 100% effort every game. You keep him as long as possible. Hopefully, he'll retire a King.

There are a great many differences between Brown and Richards:

1) The Kings don't have a player like Brown waiting in Manchester.

2) Brown is the captain, and that isn't an honorary post for being the longest tenured player on the Kings.

3) Brown's production may be down, but he is skating well, and still hits everything that moves when it's a big game.

4) Shore appears to be ready to take a spot on the roster. Richards is the most likely candidate.

If there is one player that will likely retire as a King, Dustin Brown is probably the best bet.

I agree. Brown's contract is a little worrying but he is one of the most exciting players to watch on this team (in both good and bad ways) because of his good north-south game and hitting (along with his bad turning capability that lead to loose pucks or turnovers). Someone else is going to go before him in order for Williams to stay.
