Seems like Holl is penciled in as a spare RHD on the NHL roster, but was waived for flexibility so they can send him down if they need to recall a forward. Makes sense since Edvinsson is the only waiver exempt player on the roster and they likely don't want to have to send him down. That and given Holl's horrible contract, he was basically guaranteed to clear.

At least now the social media Yzerdrones that compared Holl to Larry Murphy last summer can rest easy since he's still on the roster and thus still has a chance to fill those shoes

It was only his mistakes at the 2023 playoffs, which did create ultimate hate from Leafs fans. That fansbase is 100x more crazy finding for scapegoats, so it was understandable.

His regular season was pretty good and no one cared before that. Was playing only for 2M.

This is false. Holl certainly was particularly brutal in the 2023 playoffs, but he had also been the Leafs fans equivalent to Jonathan Ericsson for quite some time before that.

Unless I am misunderstanding, sounds like he's been sent to the AHL.

The Detroit Red Wings today assigned forwards Sheldon Dries and Joe Snively, and defensemen Justin Holl, William Lagesson and Brogan Rafferty to the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

The roster moves bring the Red Wings to a 23-man roster, consisting of 13 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders. The Red Wings will begin their 99th season in franchise history on Thursday, Oct. 10 with a home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7:00 p.m. at Little Caesars Arena.
