Two years? He needs waivers this upcoming seasons and he couldn't crack the worst RD in the league despite numerous chances.

He's still a B+ prospect. His problem isn't much the guys in front of him but the bunch of A/A+ prospects coming from behind. He obviously doesn't have an infinite amount of time to figures it out because of that, but it's his job to lose for now, so it's up to him to hold to this opportunity.

I think Barron will surprise many this year. Low cap hit for a RHD puck mover.... I mean he is only 27.
22 and change...
So much upside.....
I know, many of our fans do not have patience, the kid needs some time here. Been a good foot soldier, went to the AHL and worked on his game.
Someone mentioned he was one of the better RHD with goal production, and he played 40 some games.....this was ALL RHD in the league.

No one cares
JB has some great tools to work with, can dazzle at times with his offensive ability, and leave you scratching your head with some of his defensive mistakes. Like Xhekaj he needs to find some consistency in his game and with so many young players on the way, pressure will be on both of them to put things together over the next two seasons.

They’ll have to, it’s not « if », unless you want Price to comeback and take a roster spot.

They just don’t have to do it in the summer.

Speaking of which, do we play the whole season with 16 millions in cap space? That would be surprising.
We'll try to spend it on a 'buy low' forward candidate with a short contract during the offseason, if not we might wait until the trade deadline to see where we're at. If we're competing for a playoff spot then we might pick up a good player, if not then maybe a cap dump to get more draft assets.

Out of curiosity, is there any reason not to put Price on LTIR and have the opportunity to weaponize that cap space?
There is no need to put him on it now if it's not used, they can put him on it the moment a trade is happening that requires it. But there is no team who needs to dump big salary to be under the cap at season start. The teams going beyond the cap have their own LTIR options.

💯

How young athletes respond to that kind of pressure is what separates the wheat from the chaff ... Will be interesting to see what Barron does this year (assuming he's not traded)

We have alot of LDs but not much on the right
Xhekaj/Harris/Struble have played both sides, and this further proves my point. Barron couldn't crack the worst RD in the league despite having so many chances. Not sure how it's going to be any easier when guys like Mailloux/Reinbacher could pass him soon.

If he doesn't come into camp like a man on a mission, he's going to be the 7/8 dman. If Reinbacher/Mailloux are ready sooner rather than later, he's pretty much gone, that's why I don't understand the two years we gave him.

There was nothing wrong with the logic of trading Lehky for Barron, it was sound. Barron also has time to figure it out to pay dividends on the bet. He has a lot of appreciative tools. Even if it ultimately fails, the thought process was fine.
We also got the 2nd, that he traded this year to LA to move up in the draft to select Hage. The Lehkonen trade was fine.

Reinbacher needs to pass him if not thats a big fail on management and who knows what we have with Mailloux hes still a mess defensively they are only one year apart Barron is still very young and has some good tools a 2 year contract at 1.15 will have zero effect on our cap its a good signing its now on him to show up to camp ready
