Good, now send wideman to the dressing room where he's at his best and trade Edmunson

Happy for the kid, but personally disappointed. I've got tickets to a Laval game on January 4th and Montreal is plucking the good players away just before that game; first Richard, now Barron.

I'm not sure what will be worth watching in Laval?
you can study soon-to-be-fired JF Houle's tactics ;)

Why though? Why not let him simmer even more.. Richard is understandable at 25yo and leading the league in scoring. Well will be nice to see more Fresh Blood. Heres to hoping a GOOD trade is around the Xmas Corner.
I'll return the question: Why not? Why let him simmer until 25?

He's a big, skilled, RD who can walk the blueline like few dmen I've seen in Montreal in the last 15-20 years and has been killing it on the PP. He just needs to gain experience and read the plays better defensively, but he's not worse than Wideman. And he's 21! The future is bright.

I'm not sure what will be worth watching in Laval?
The hockey game.

Crosby’s boy is back, I’m a fan of what I saw from him in Laval. Hopefully he can impress in the big league.

He’s got some potential and I wouldn’t be quick to write him off.
Crosby’s boy? Elaborate I’m curious haha

Edit: they’re both from my hood I should have known this lol disregard

Baron has been doing well in laval. He is part of the future. knowing teams are interest in other hab d-men and may get traded then its smart to bring Baron up to get more nhl games before others get traded. Also, the second habs do trade d or even forwards the tank is on for sure. You should EXPECT a dive in the standings so just give Baron the rest of the year to get his game UP to NHL. Its NEXT year the habs start the move upward from the bottom .

I think Hughes is addressing the fact that Wideman is not very good.

Justin Barron has played a total of 75 AHL games and has 13 G and 27 A.

Not a bad total for a rookie D in the AHL.
I’d like to see Barron more assertive with his decisions. He has all the tools to really help the attack but his last stint here he wasn’t making quick smart choices with the puck.

Well none of Guhle/Xhekaj/Harris spent time in the minors in the first place, I’m talking about when they are in the minors.
That's my point...maybe all Barron needed was a bit more seasoning. That doesn't make him less of a Dman than the current rookie group.
I am not saying he is here to stay.

Maybe you'll get lucky and the Great Chris Wideman will join to rescue Laval. Then you can scalp the tickets for triple the price you paid for them.

I said last year I wouldn't have put him in the NHL and I wouldn't call him up now despite him playing much better. This team seems to have fallen apart, just seems like a bad time to have 5 rookie D going vs some very good teams coming up. But clearly this new management group seems less concerned about the confidence side of development, which time will tell if they are right or not.

I haven't seen much of the Habs this year, but I believe in MSL as a guy that at least will be able to develop certain type of players since we already have seen the night and day Caufield under the 2. Now of course Caufield was highly skilled under both coaches, and some of it could be bad luck but not such a massive difference in production, that's highly telling of course.

I don't know how it's going to go for all these rookie D, the good news is we have a shit ton of them. It takes many years in most cases to develop young D, so getting them started now I would think should help a lot since it's such a very rare chance to have them grow together since they make up the bulk of our entire blueline. In the past 10-15 years I can't think of too many times I have seen this too often as I know the Flyers had a bunch of young D's but I don't feel like looking it up, so it's going to be extremely interesting to see what happens. I know many fans think they know what's going to happen but they are often wrong and only time will tell. Guys you are down on now, next year could be very different or they could end up being even worse. It's just the way it goes, sure you can see things on the ice but there are so many other factors going on that it's impossible to know half of it.

As we have seen now for some time, it's damn hard to find a replacement for Markov, but if you can get several quality or better blueliners out of Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Barron, Hutson, Mailloux, Engstrom, Norliner, Beaudin, Trudeau, Fairbrother, Kostenko, Nurmi, Tourigny over several years then that's certainly going to bode well for the Habs future.

Funny thing— we all intuitively know every young player is better off simmering or ripening in the AHL but when it comes to the super raw top3 pick, the Habs organization and Habs fans are adamant that his development is best served playing garbage 4th line minutes in the NHL. Three times in ten years!!
