Rumor: Just Kidding! Pettersson and JT Miller Trade Reunion!

Crazy to me Jim would come out and say these sort of comments. How does this do anything but lower their value if you are basically saying "we need to trade one of them".

If he is saying this, it means a trade it is coming and they are preparing the marketplace for the inevitability that the return will disappoint them. Or, they are going to trade Miller for nothing and they want people to perceive it as a good thing because the alternative was getting "maybe a 3C" for Pettersson.

They likely pushed the trade market as far as they can take it, and waiting only risks more teams looking elsewhere like Carolina did, which results in less leverage for Vancouver. Meanwhile, their season is at risk because of this distraction. They are fighting for a wildcard spot.

The moment I saw that article, I figured he's gone within 24 hours, maybe a few days at most.

Offers aren't good enough. Maybe JT isn't willing to waive. He wants to put the league on notice that both are available. Media pressure will be amped up on both players as well which might embarrass them, make them play better, and cause JT to waive. and finally, he is preparing the fans for an underwhelming return.

Hi, it's me Jim Rutherford. I just wanted to officially go on-record with the media to state these 2 players are a problem and we need a trade. I have no leverage and I'm confirming this for the other 31 GMs. Thanks.

This is such a debacle for the Canucks. I cannot think of any comparable situation in recent decades for an NHL team. Rutherford and his front office never should have allowed it to get to this point, but at the same time, you have to wonder why top-level pro athletes like Pettersson and Miller can't just get over their differences, either. An all around shit show.

Unless one of them is sleeping with the other one’s wife or girlfriend I don’t see why they can’t at least just work together. If Miller is actually taking a leave of absence from the team because he doesn’t like Petterson then there’s something seriously wrong with him.
i imagine it's more like miller can't be miller because pettersson does not like it. so miller tries to be half volume miller and pettersson is supposed to go along, but it ain't working.

I don't think it's a message to the players.

I think it's a message to the fans. They want it in the media that the market for the players are bad, so that the fans have time to process it before it happens.

This thing has dragged on, and they lose one of their top trade partners last week. I think that they probably realize that the market isn't getting any better, and it's time to accept what is out there.

Hoffman and Karlsson? Although, it didn't drag out like this one.

Ottawa got pennies on the dollar for Hoffman, back when scoring was lower and 30 goals actually meant something. They traded him for Boedker and then San Jose flipped him for a 2nd.

That isn't me saying Hoffman is anywhere near either Pettersson or Miller in prominence, but it is a case where a public feud between two star players led to the team having to sell one off from a major position of weakness.

Rutherford gave such a brutal interview. Whatever either of these guys is traded for, it's going to be a bad return. He essentially just publicly admitted that their backs are completely against the wall. If they don't trade them and do nothing, the ship just goes down in flames more than it already is, and then they'll eventually have to trade them anyways. This is such a nightmare situation for Vancouver.

Feel for VAN fans. Kind of insane that these 2 million dollar athletes can't sort out whatever interpersonal quarrel they have.

This reads like JR has a deal lined up, but it is le poop and this is a last ditch effort to get something better
Very much so. The line "it might not even be a second line centre." is so strangely specific and unnecessary unless that's exactly what they're getting back, a guy who's more of a 3C and not a 2C lmao.

FWIW Lou just added Tony Deangelo. He’s in full desperation mode right now. There’s no way Barzal goes back, but I could see the main piece being Dobson for sure.

The Rutherford interview coming out screams imminent deal. No leaks as to what it could be? That sounds like Lou. They have blockbuster history - I wouldn’t write the Isles off here.
Or Yzerman. :naughty:

Do people really think this lowers leverage? Everybody KNOWS what is going on with Petey and Miller, nothing has changed, these are multiple million, some billion $ Organizations, you think they don't know if this drama is true or not, of course they do.

Skip to 8:00, I agree 100% with the Take.

What are you smokin ? He's fourth on the team in blocked shots. First in forward blocked shots and almost doubling Miller. Third on the team in take-aways and arguably the teams best defensive forward. He's had a down season, but when he's on doesn't hesitate from physical play whatsoever.

He is still a big soft emotional cry baby.... so bad that it bleeds through the team...

Also sticking up for his D doesn't justify his 11.6 m cap hit.... he's playing at a 60 pt pace........ have you ever seen anyone making his kind of money do that?

Also if he is such a warrior on D.. why is he so scared on offense?

Yes, it absolutely does. There is absolutely no doubt or plausible deniability left now. There is literally no option for Vancouver but to trade these players now. They can't hold out for a better deal, because Rutherford just admitted that they won't ever resolve the issue. So if you don't trade them now, the Canucks keep sucking, it just means you have to trade them later, when Pettersson's NMC kicks in, and Miller continues to age and perhaps his play drops off a bit. Going out and admitting that there is no solution to the problem other than a trade absolutely tanks both these players' values and it is plain cope if you think otherwise.

We've known all of this shit for about 5+ weeks now and people are acting surprised just because Rutherford aired it out? The JT forcing his way to NYR rumor has been a story for a solid month dating back to when Nick Kypreos first mentioned it. Why do HF elitists act like others are crazy for reading tea leaves while a house is burning down?
