The error in your thinking is a. how much of an impact Miller is having on Petey currently (he was well over PPG when Miller sat out. and b. Their age. Miller's trajectory is declining. Petey still has plenty of prime yrs left.
In a yr or two it will be totally obvious Petey is the guy to keep.

I think this is true with any star player being traded. Both sides want to make sure he’s okay with the trade beforehand. It’s a given here.
The part I might not agree with is coming to Buffalo. He has the same agent as Power and Sammuelson, and is friends with Dahlin. Crazier things have happened.
Will EP be better in a year or two though? What happens when the next Miller comes along and rattles his cage when he half-asses it again? Is someone that mentally fragile really who you wanna hitch your wagon to?
This is going to sound wild but these guys played together for years without any ugly rift becoming public. Maybe it was kept under wraps. Or maybe it didn't exist until more recently. What changed in the Canucks locker room to cause this issue when the team was finally turning the corner and getting better? Usually a good team performance can smooth over issues.
So it can't be something that's been brewing for years. As much as the hockey media doesn't want to admit it. Louie Eriksson and OEL were two veteran Swedes who were part of the Canucks locker room when there was no Miller and EP rift.
The Canucks can lose badly trading a 100 point star C who can go head to head against McDavid and win. Or they can overpay to trade for OEL to right this ship. A Stanley Cup winning vet who is respected by everyone in the Canucks org.
Hogland (with retention) Willander a first and the other Petterson (one leaves to keep Miller happy) for OEL.

Crazy to me Jim would come out and say these sort of comments. How does this do anything but lower their value if you are basically saying "we need to trade one of them".
Eichel was rumored to be a locker room cancer, same for O Reilly, Byfuglien or Wheeler or Scheifele… very Hard to know what is Happening in a locker Room.
Maybe he is soft, maybe the Team just can t work together…
Miller literally took a month off and couldn't even man up and tell us why. I get that petey has flaws but all you have to do is directly compare them to Miller, who has similar and more flaws. He's the guy antagonizing teammates.

The Canucks just called up Raty from abby. While it may be nothing, this is interesting. Canucks have been papering guys down to the minors all season to accrue daily cap space. Why change that now and add a guy to the daily cap? Why not wait until the game day tomorrow to do it?
It's an away game, so maybe time to fly in and get acclimatized before playing? Not sure.
Would Anaheim or Chicago be interested in Pettersson? They have been bad for a while,
and need to take a step. Anaheim traded for Trouba. I prefer Miller, but it looks like Miller is the one leaving.

PPG 2 way play is not enough to justify that contract. He better be putting up 100+ points every years with that contract.

Coaches and GMs have all come out complaining about Peteys practice habits and commitment to improving off the ice.
I have no doubt that Miller is just completely ticked off that he has had to carry Petey through all his ups and downs throughout the years then this kids gets 11.6 M and still doesn't show the commitments to win and help the team.
They prolly never liked each other but this just lit the fuse and it's blowing up now. If I was JT I would be pissed off too.
I can't even imagine how pissed off Hughes is with these guys...
