Player Discussion Juraj Slafkovsky Discussion

I think it's hard to predict the extent to which Demidov and Reinbacher will improve the team.

How are you doing it?
Demidov should have a similar immediate impact to Hutson, Guhle, Suzuki and Caufield. Reinbacher, Im less certain but Im still high.

Thats the point though, we need to stop using the potential excuse to not look at adding talent. If Hughes can add a top line winger, he 100% should. Depth is how games are won, and pushing down good players is a good thing.

Very weird to me.

I do it like it's a spot upgrade, Barron->Carrier.

Reino replaces our worst RD (let's say: Savard), and Demidov replaces our worst top6 winger (let's say: Newhook).

Savard->Reino
Newhook->Demidov
...
[WNR: Whoever Newhook Replaces]->Newhook
Pezzetta -> [WNR]

It's getting everyone in a better fitting chair and the worst guy of the forward and d-corps out of the chairs entirely. I think the improvement will be significant -- Demidov cannot have a season worse than Newhook's current season and Reino cannot have a season worse than Savard's current season.

In a steady state you're probably right. My impression is that Hughes needs to add one more excellent player.

Slafkovsky might look a lot better from the second line.

It happens to all players that’s the point of my last post. No players throw perfect passes every shift of every game, It’s not possible. The difference is people don’t make a story out of Suzuki’s bad passes in games.
Sure, and when they make atrocious passes they should be called out too, or whatever mistakes are being made.

Everyone has the right to be praised and criticized....Laine's turnovers, Mathesons brain shutting off, Arber's decision making, etc.

Slaf had the chance to set someone on a breakway and sent the pass behind him by like 5 feet.. When he was breaking out with the play he literally sent the pass to nobody. They were very noticeable plays, and one that could of changed the game. I get that the board is very divisive on Slaf, and there's a good reason for it, his last two seasons have been very Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde... and people have absolutely no patience here.

I think lots of people here get very black/white with players, but you can still support them and be able to talk about the good/bad of them.

Wake me up when Ryan Poehling eclipses Nick Suzuki. Any day now.

We all get better over time I guess and I dressed that list relying mostly on a short tournament as sample size, what I shouldnt have done, but Ive been a passionated of prospects for a long time and Im not ashamed of my overall contribution to this board over the years by any means. Some years I had more time to spend on prospects, some years not. But at the end I think Ive had more good takes than the opposite. Ive dressed lists following my own criterias, I created prospects content, I called the Slaf and Reinbacher pick way ahead of time.

What about your own contribution to this board outside trolling the Slaf thread cowardly since his draft day?

I think that you're one of the higher value posters here. Your opinions can be eccentric at times, but that reflects that they're your own opinions based on your own diligent watching and analysis, you're not just repackaging consensus. There aren't many posters that do what you do.

He's going to get roasted for that one in their next video session... have to do a better job of shot blocking than that this time of year

And how do you persuade one of them to play on the second wave? Laine will need a contract next season and Caufield is your second best forward. If Kent has 0 plan to sign Laine, I will probably put him in the second wave or trade him in January 2026. Most of Laine points come from the PP. Better to trade him at 50% before he lose his value.
.. or keep guys who can score, add a real good 2c, a 1rd and go from there? I don’t think guys with long term contracts (or simply team players) should worry about playing pp2 including our big boy here.

He defers to the perimeter way too much for a guy his size. In his draft year, hed usually cut inside on like 75% of his zone entries, now he goes and kills his own momentum in the corners and looks for a cheap pass. Just skate it Juraj, just put your shoulder down and go.

He doesnt shoot enough though, and his goalscoring has been incredibly lucky. Thats just real life.

It doesnt take away anything from his game away from that.
Define luck in the context of scoring goals. That would require goalies to be unlucky. Are they unlucky more against Slaf? If he does one little thing to tilt and opportunity in his favorite is it still luck. Luck is a cop out Bip and you know it. It's a mystical believe for something that one can't explain. Work a little harder and you will explain some of his "lucky" goals.

Dammit Miller! He doesn't shoot enough! pfffftttt boardwork and puck control are overrated. Shoot more!!!!!

It must suck to watch hockey but not understand the game well enough to be able to appreciate non-obvious stat line impacts... reduces the ability to enjoy the progression of elite young talents like the ones we've assembled.

I pity those fans, can't be fun being that kind of fan during a rebuild... even one going as well as ours.

Im convinced it's an ego thing with them. Obsessed with being right.

There's two players in the NHL that blow me away with their shooting. Arthurn Kaliyev that always shoot. No matter where, circumstances, as soon as he touches the puck it's off.

Then there's Slaf who comedically refuses to shoot in all kinds of prime of shooting opportunities. Just as fantastic as Kalijev. I don't care if he scores 3 goals next game. I know he's not shooting enough.

Its just luck, man. How many "clear cut" goals did he score this year? Were talking one hand.

Lucky goals are one thing, all players have varying degrees, but when its the bulk of your production, its not good.
