Player Discussion Juraj Slafkovsky Discussion

For a guy his size, he should win more battles on the board and yes he makes many bad passes during a game. It seems like you are trying to convince your self of the contrary. We all want him to succeed but we have to takes the pink glasses off and call it how we see it
Okay.

I see him as a young player with excellent potential still finding his game. He’s going to make mistakes and he’s going to give you glimpses of what he can be. That’s pretty much par for the course with most players who are in their developmental years.

I’m disappointed in his season but not in a big way. I’d have liked to have seen a better start. I think that next step that we were expecting this season will happen next year.

Slaf is the least of my Habs worries. It's like some posters in this thread are watching another player entierly.

Sure, he doesn't have lightning quick hands and feet, but low hockey IQ? IQ is what makes him special. He consistently makes amazing passes, but more specifically, he makes those passes instantly. He figures out where the puck needs to go before it touches his stick.

He's just a few mental improvements like shot selection and consistency (especially with regards to physicality) away from being an impact forward. Those are things a young player usually figures out as he matures. A 60-70 point guy with his physical attributes is just as valuable as a small PPG forward in my book.

But that is just a base case. He could realistically still improve his skills and add elements to his game. Slaf has the mindset of a guy who wants to be the best and is willing to work to get there. People comparing him to Andrei Kostityn, do you even remember Kostityn? That guy failed to reach his potential because he did not care enough about hockey. You can say whatever you want about Slaf, but at least he cares.

Suzuki makes bad passes during a game too, Caufield also. Every player in the league. You’re just not overanalyzing their game like you do Slaf.

You are right, mistakes are part of the game and all payers make them. But some players more than other. When Slaf is trying to olay a finesse game, he make more mistakes that he should and he is not enough patient with the puck IMO

I sent him this and he didn't reply :(

Nothing disingenuous about wanting Slaf to shoot the puck more than once every game (20min TOI, next to our best players, PP time, etc.)

I respect you disagree — and appear to think Slafkovsky is above criticism — but this is a discussion board and it needs to be reiterated: we won’t all have the same opinions and takes about players and moments. It’s perfectly fine!
Do you actually think anyone is dumb enough to fall for your gaslighting nonsense?

Can he care a bit more than 1 or 0 SoG in well over half the games he's played this season?

In 69gp he has 1 or 0 SoG in 39gp. Must be that lighting fast hockey IQ that dictates to him to not take shots.

Do you think Slaf should shoot the puck less? He has 2 or more SoG in 30 of his 69 games this season, that's 39 games where he shot the puck 1 or 0 times. I presume you think I'm gaslighting you but I don't know what you mean by gaslighting in this respect.

Dont feed the trolls, our top line has been one of the best in the league at even strength since the 4 nations, Slaf is doing all the heavy duties on that line, now the whole team seems exhauted, this is not a lack of effort, thats a lack of supporting cast for the top line.

Slaf is basically PPG since the 4 nations, despite being the net front presence on the PP where he gets less puck touches, so less pts than the others.

Stats watchers are laughable, they dont have the ability to assess or project players by their own so they crap on them until proved wrong with irrefutable results. Kid is 20 years old LOL, chill out!! Power fowards take time to fully develop, just as big defensemen.

Next year Demidov will inject a good dose of talent to this line-up and Hughes will surely add to the team this summer, watch Slaf's stats go up to 70 pts, you wont believe it.

Oh and wake me up when Utah makes the playoffs with Cooley as their top line center.

Wake me up when Ryan Poehling eclipses Nick Suzuki. Any day now.

I've been watching the games from the opponents feed mostly of late, the praise and recognition of how great our top line is playing is unanimous.

The takes posted in this thread by the usual suspects are so completely out of touch with reality that they have to be intentional trolling... no one could come up with such nonsense honestly. Especially after already having eaten a buffet of crow and offering up phony apologies for the sh*t posting they flooded the board with in Slaf's first 1-2 years.

Again today, best line on the ice so far is our trio of 25U studs.

Why a person would prefer to troll over enjoying young talent we haven't seen in decades in this organization is beyond me, but to each their own I guess.

I think that a lot of people on this forum are completely unfair to you.

You have advocated for a position that goes against the predominant doctrine (the horror!) but you have done so in a respectful and resourceful manner. I haven't seen you insult nor attack anybody in this thread, but you get treated like you're some sort of villain it's ridiculous.

I think it's clear that you don't want Slaf to fail but you're skeptical of his management and top end potential.

I think that Poehling got a concussion at the worst time.
