Family decision, no state tax. Detroit writer was wondering why a Swede would turn down Detroit. Tampa has a very solid team, and great weather all year, good place to raise a family.

Good place to retire, not the best place to raise a family, unless he wants his kids addicted to meth.

We don't have any prospects similar to Stralman.

Stralman at $4M per for 5 years >>>>> Klein at $2.9M per for 3 years.

The ONLY way this is justifiable is if Stralman was asking for $5M from us, and he eventually settled AFTER we signed Boyle.

Allen is actually pretty similar to Stralman . . .

Exactly...$4 million in TB is not the same as $4 million in NYC.

Likely an instance of his agent shooting for the moon and then running out of options.

#BlameSather

Umm, do you understand?

That means #DontBlameSather

because Stralman was asking for more from us, and only lowered his price after we signed Dan Boyle and he didn't get the offers he hoped for.

Plus, it's 4.5 per, not 4.

No clue why everyone is freaking out re: Stralman.

Why would we lock ourselves up into a long term deal? We already have Girardi, McDonagh, and Klein locked up for some time. Boyle is a two-year stopgap until Skjei is ready to step into the top 4. We also have Allen and McIlrath just about ready or ready.

Why lock ourselves into a long term deal with Stralman? I don't see the logic, there.

I'm convinced we lead the HF Boards in amount of active drama queens....crazy. Boyle for two years at 4.5 per is alot better than Stralman for 5 years at $4 million per...that's first thing.

Also and I'm surprised all the drama queens in here who are complaining didn't realize this but in Florida there is NO State income tax. Which means Yzerman could offer him as he did with Callahan about $500-$750 thousand LESS than what we or anyone else had to offer. So for those who can't figure it out, we would have had to offer Stralman around $4.75 per to $5 million per for 5 years to equal what Tampa did.

Hope that makes sense for those of y'all about to jump off the ledge.

So much for those that think they know a players value.

If Stralman was THAT valued around the league, I kind of think he would have gotten at least Orpik money.

those possession stats did him alot of good in his negotiating huh?

To be fair, he was more concerned with stability and the city than cash. he may have left money on the table for term and maybe some form of a nmc... he turned down more money from Detroit.

Gotta think that it's either that the NYR didn't want to go that long term-wise (5 years) -OR- and more likely, IMHO, that Stralman wanted to go someplace else.

(edit) Ah, 4.5 not 4. Makes more sense now.

It always amazes me that in sports, nobody seems to consider or even care about the state income tax. Fans completely ignore it.

Okay so on par with Boyle.. It's basically the same player you are trading an offensive defender for defense. I'm not giving Stralman 5 years though.. let's be realistic here.

This is what I said. Wanted more from the Rangers. Probably a family decision & no tax in Florida.

I've always wondered if I could claim residence in a no-income-tax state and then just work in my current high tax hell hole of NJ without paying extra... but NY and NJ probably figured people would do that and not allow it. haha

in retrospect, the rangers probably should have traded girardi and kept stralman. granted, they prolly dont make it to the SCF if they do that.
