I was way off. Rangers should have kept Stralman (if he was willing to take those terms here) and traded Staal.

So much for those that think they know a players value.

If Stralman was THAT valued around the league, I kind of think he would have gotten at least Orpik money.

those possession stats did him alot of good in his negotiating huh?

Not sure if the report is even accurate yet.

No confirmation yet

No clue why everyone is freaking out re: Stralman.

Why would we lock ourselves up into a long term deal? We already have Girardi, McDonagh, and Klein locked up for some time. Boyle is a two-year stopgap until Skjei is ready to step into the top 4. We also have Allen and McIlrath just about ready or ready.

Why lock ourselves into a long term deal with Stralman? I don't see the logic, there.

This.

I don't think I give Stralman 5 years, but that cap hit when all the Defense flew off the board.. shocked.

A $4mil/year top 4 d-man is easy to move down the line. 5 years should NOT have been an issue for Sather. This is a huge mistake.

Maybe he left money on the table to keep his wife's yap shut?

Family decision, no state tax. Detroit writer was wondering why a Swede would turn down Detroit. Tampa has a very solid team, and great weather all year, good place to raise a family.

And I was/am one of his biggest fans on the board. But I am not giving Stralman five ****ing years with our defensive prospects just about ready to go.
If one of our prospects earns a spot you can absolutely move a, say, 31-year old Stralman in a trade with a couple of years left with an AAV of $4 million. Unless the dude absolutely craters, that's a very tradeable contract for a steady RHD.

At the VERY WORST (or best case) scenario, McIlrath is a 2nd pairing RD and Stralman is an overpaid (but very good) 3rd pairing RD for a year.

I don't think McIlrath is going to be a 2nd pairing defenseman in 4 years. I hope i'm wrong.

We don't have any prospects similar to Stralman.

Stralman at $4M per for 5 years >>>>> Klein at $2.9M per for 3 years.

The ONLY way this is justifiable is if Stralman was asking for $5M from us, and he eventually settled AFTER we signed Boyle.

Endless complaining over 4th line moves? Must be July 1st in Ranger land.

Bigger issue is Nash being your best forward. Would have preferred sending Nash to Buffalo to help that cap floor (ignoring that nmc of course) and signed Moulsson.

Didn't hate the Boyle singing but I wouldn't have balked at resigning Strahlman first for his TBL terms.

Allen is ready to go at the NHL level right now.

McIlrath is either ready or half a year away.

We have 2 of our top prospects, former 1st round picks, ready to make the jump in the next 16 months. There is no reason to tie ourselves down significantly with long term contracts on guys that aren't playing top minutes (McDonagh, Girardi, to a lesser extent Staal).
