Canucks sign Vrbata.

What the hell is Benning trying to do? Rebuild? Retool? Make the playoffs? Seems like a completely muddled mess of random decisions.

Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini is worried about the attendance dwindling. He will spend to the cap to keep the fan base interested in the team. Besides, the Canucks aren't bad enough to be in the McDavid and Eichel sweepstakes.

Still Booth, Setoguchi, Heatley (ugh), Penner (ugh), and Santorelli lingering around. And, a under-noticed name. Lee Stempniak, who has been good for 40+ every year until last year. Even if he's taken a step back to a 30-35 guy, that would work for our 3rd line.

I'm not sure replacing 30-35 points should really be that difficult... at least for most teams...

Peter Mueller for Pouliot replacement?

I'd like Mueller a lot. I hope he ends up coming back to the NHL and is not still dealing with lingering concussion issues. From what I've heard, it sounds like he's doing well. I'd like him in Rangers blue, for sure. Could likely be had cheaply, too.

I don't know if I want anything to do with a player involved in a Wojtek Wolski trade. ;)

Contrary to popular belief, quality depth is really pretty hard to find. It's even somewhat difficult to fill from within.

Teams like Chicago/Boston/LA/etc are so good because of the fact that they develop bottom 6 players.. They don't really have to go out and sign them.. I mean yeah Kopitar, Toews, Kane etc help too. but I'm saying they develop their bottom lines.

They're good partially because they have good bottom 6 players. It really doesn't matter where they come from. Look at the Bruins. Campbell, Paille, Thornton, Kelly. These players were all acquired from outside the organization. Thornton is gone now, I know... and Kelly was hurt most of last season, but the point remains. You just have to have depth. It doesn't matter where it comes from.

On a cheap contract Leino would not be an awful idea. I'm talking $1 million or so cheap.

Vrbata for $5 mil per. Jesus Christ. Just stupid money. Bolland yesterday. I really can't imagine what's going through some of these GM"s minds.

Sather doing what he did in 11-12. Too much turnover.

Team went to the Stanley Cup Finals and Richards, Stralman, Boyle, Pouliot, and Dorsett are all gone (five players, four of which were regulars - Richards, Boyle, Pouliot, Stralman).

We didn't sign anyone to replace Richard's 50 points, we replaced Stralman with D. Boyle which could be considered a wash if Boyle can produce 35+ points on the back end, as dumb as Pouliot was he scored big goals for us in the post season and was a semi-regular contributor, and failed to replace Boyle with an equivalent heart and soul player.

A lot of teams are improving (especially out West). Unless everyone here thinks that the Rangers will be able to fill all of those gaps with their farm players (which is unlikely).

Santorelli signed.

Totally on board with Booth, Mueller, Setoguchi or Stempniak on a Pouliot-esque deal.
