I realize Ohtani received $700 million last year but I don't see how Soto would receive $600 million let alone that number. Ohtani was a special case - elite hitter and elite pitcher, albeit with limited starts over the coming years. He is also an international superstar who will draw lots of marketing and merchandising opportunities from another large, first world country overseas. Soto is an elite bat, but from a pretty small, developing country. The marketing and merchandising opportunities for the team that wins will be much more limited than Ohtani. Soto just doesn't have his cache. $500 million...maybe $550 million over...I dunno, 12-14 years seems more likely.
