Rumor: JTM Trade Thread: Why did JT Miller bring a suitcase to practice?

Wish the Caps were in on Miller. He would complete the top 6 along the wing with Strome and Ovi. The only untouchables among Caps side for <25 yo players and prospects would probably be Sandin/Protas/Leonard. Mangiapane would have to go back for cap reasons. Something along the lines of Mangiapane + McMichael + ???

I'm going on record saying that if the Canucks trade JT Miller during the season it will be looked back on as a terrible trade for them and everyone will call their management impatient and shortsighted.

The time to trade Miller is in the offseason when more teams can make cap space for him and the Canucks can weigh their options.

The absolutely terrible offers being floated out there from the Rangers, including the sentiment that they're looking for "the lowest offer the Canucks would accept" has all the makings of a trade where people look back and say "that's where Allvin and Rutherford lost their jobs" ... even if they do last another year or so after the trade.

It didn't sound good but isn't that every trade?

...the biggest issue, imo, with waiting is that Miller's totals continue to slide this year or he gets injured...GMs aren't all maroons and know that the longer JT depreciates in value this season, the less it'll cost to scoop him up in the offseason...so it's a slippery slope waiting when it comes to players at his age...

Washington Vancouver

PLD for Miller
...that makes the supposed Carolina offer of KK + Roslovic + look better... 🤣

I, for one, am shocked that a player who is having a locker room issue that is now widely publicized, and has complete control over where he is traded to, while also being on the wrong side of 30 and locked into a contract till he is 37, does not actually command the market value that some initially thought.

If it is NYR, they going to give something like:

Filip Chytil C ($4.4M Cap hit), 2 more years left after this one on his deal
Ryan Lindgren LD ($4.5M Cap hit), UFA at the end of the year
2026 1st Rounder (protection TBD)
B-level prospect from Hartford (Berard, Roobroeck, or something similar)
This is most of the reported pieces in the deal. I'm surprised it was leaked like that. Chityl responded with a good game. Lindgren getting traded in this deal as a pending UFA, with the Rangers going in the right direction since Trouba/Kakko trade caught me off guard. Is Lindgren the player the Canucks are looking for, as a panic move to try to establish a top 4 defense? Seems like the Canucks should be pushing for Dylan Garand, along with Adam Sykora. But for defense is Zac Jones a better return than Lindgren given the term?

In the meantime bring in as many Petterssons as possible to create confusion if you are the Canucks. And avoid another Barry Pederson trade.

Drury is trying to save face because he could’ve had Miller 3 years ago for 2 playoff runs at a $5.25M cap hit, at the height of Miller’s prime, and wouldn’t pull the trigger because he refused to move Braden Schneider. Rangers probably win the cup in ‘22 with JT Miller in their top 6 instead of Andrew Copp. Drury is an absolute donkey.

The Rangers obsession with Braden Schneider is hilarious.

Canucks trading their heart soul player for peanuts while having their season implode would be such a Vancouver thing to do. WTF has Pettersson done? Ohh that’s right the GM is also Swedish lol no way Allvin trades his Swedish “star” player. This guy has been a ghost since he signed his extension.

There was never a trade for Miller for Schneider, did you just make that up?

Nope. And never suggested it was Schneider for Miller straight up if that’s the angle you’re trying to take here.

There were lots of rumours that the Canucks were shopping Miller in the early part of 2022 with rumours of the Rangers offering a package around Filip Chytyl and Nils Lundkvist. Apparently the Canucks asked for Braden Schneider and that’s where the trade died.

The NHL is such a mess with no movement clauses in contracts and complete salary cap inflexibility.

They need to let front offices cook like in the NFL.

The article doesn't make it sound like Schneider held up the trade at all. First off it seems like complete speculation, second it just says Rangers weren't willing to move Schneider. Which made sense since we needed a physical stay at home RD with potential. You don't find many 20 year old Dmen who step in immediately in the league and are solid.

Canucks should waive Miller. He's guaranteed to be claimed. Rather than retain and take back the pile of garbage from the Rags they get full cap space.

The cap space is more valuable.
You can't. But even if you could, I didn't hear anything about retention from what NYR offered. Waiving Miller instead of receiving Chytil and whatever protection was on the 1st seems like a real immature move. That's borderline tantrum attitude.

There was lots of speculation at the time that Vancouver coveted Schneider, why do you think Schneider’s name was even brought up if not to suggest, him not being involved was an issue?

As for Schneider, he played 11 min/game in the Rangers’ run in 2022 and this season is playing less than Will Borgen and is still effectively the Rangers’ #3 RD.
