Confirmed with Link: JT Miller traded to NYR for Chytil, Mancini, 1st round pick (protected)

I like it for the simple fact alone that JT Miller is a prick (on top of being a good hockey player with a 100pt ceiling) and that’s what we’ve needed for years. Milquetoast and bland core forever. Now we have our prick to lead us.

Chytil, Mancini and a protected first is legitimately pennies on the dollar for a player of JT’s caliber. Vancouver fans thought they were getting some combo of Laf, Schneider, K’Andre and a first maybe Perrault. Half their fans wanted to trade Petterson to keep JT. I personally love Fil but with his health I’m okay with him being the roster piece we moved. I’d bet good money Chytil doesn’t out produce miller at any point in the coming years. Kept our top prospects and got conditions on the first.

This could be a prelude to a Mika trade this summer as well.

Would’ve been a 10/10 if the pick was lower than a first but for me this is a good move.

Still trying to process all the pieces here, but gotta say I’m gonna miss Fil very much.

True blue, never asked for anything, fought thru all the head hits like a trooper, and had some highlight reel goals.

Bravo, sir.

Meh… I don’t hate the price, especially because I never saw Mancini as more than a 4-6 and Chytil is a 40 game player regardless of how good he is. I like the things Miller brings to a very “soft” room… I’m not unhappy with the trade but I’m just not really seeing the vision here unless we actually find a way to offload Zibanejad. Miller isn’t gonna be the 1C on a Cup winner, but Miller and Trochek are fantastic middle six centers with character. Problem remains the same as always… no 1C, no cup.

The analysis we did a few days ago, or longer, showed that with the cap increases Miller’s contract is more suited to a 2C than 1C moving forward. Look at what guys like Matthews, Draisatl, etc are making. $8m per season is 2C money, especially starting next year

Don't know what to think. Value wise the trade is an easy win for NYR. Mancini was expendable once Borgen was extended, the 1st is protected and you gotta imagine the Rangers will be in the playoffs next season as they retool, and I love Chytil but the fact is you can't depend on him and it's tough to build a roster factoring in a guy you don't know if or when he'll be available. Not to mention he's 1 play away from never playing hockey again. The Rangers did not give up much for a legit 1C who plays a style this team needs.

All of that being said, it's really tough to rationalize in my head adding another player over 30 (and another center at that) that's signed long term to pretty big money who has worn out his welcome everywhere he's been given where this team currently is. We've seen pretty big fall offs on our team alone of guys on the other side of 30.

Brannstrom is decent actually but I don't know what they're doing with him because they just keep rolling Lindgren out there on the top pair.
maybe he miraculously turns into a Forsling type.... With Housley everything is possible

but seriously.... that's what this team needs... another 'step in shit' moment like when we landed Fox.

lot of "if's" are incoming.

If Z waives his no trade. and if the Rangers find a trade partner, if the Rangers are willing to retain salary, how much?
If the Rangers can't find a trade partner, do they waive him?
If none of the above comes together do the Rangers buy Z out?

Branstrom has the Vaak vibes with his underlying numbers and age. People have been clamoring for a guy who can move the puck. He’s definitely one of those guys
He can move the puck but he can't defend. There's a reason he was given up by Colorado and Vancouver (and Ottawa).

I just don't know if we have anyone reliable enough to babysit him.

Fil also should produce at a higher clip. I think Fil has played well but he only has 5 more points than Carrick. Hopefully he has a good future for Van.

The reason Fil does not product at a higher clip is because he is not a great shooter or passer. He generates a lot of chances because he is a great skater but he is not particularly great at completing the plays.

Highly doubt Brannstrom plays regularly or is anything more than a fill in. He's just another of the Zac Jones/Adam Boqvist/Calen Addison class of small puck movers that all the model systems think is amazing yet all coaches and organizations dislike. He was already waived and unclaimed earlier this year.

A Mika buyout doesn’t save the Rangers a thing unfortunately. It’s trade or perpetual scratch until he waives the NMC.

But he is here for now, that’s an offseason deal
